Our 8 yr old cat Simba is in the hospital. He's been there since last evening. He has a really bad injury and they've cleaned it up as best they can. He has a HUGE open hole on his leg...well now he's fighting toxicity and it's going to be a touch and go thing for some time.

I need prayers that our Simba will recover so he can come home. I'm praying his body will fight the infection that he has going on.

I'll see if I can get a picture up here of him for all to see.

Well we don't know. He disappeared around Sunday and he NEVER leaves the area. He's always in calling distance. So I knew something wasn't good. So I called out every day and then Wednesday came home from horse chores and found him under the van. He was meowing streangely and wouldn't move. I had to pull him out by his tail.

He has a HUGE hole on his back leg and I could see his muscles. Everything was dry as he was dehydrated. There were maggots everywhere!!! So I called the vets and one met me there. So we don't know what happened. Maybe a spider bite? cat bite? hit by a car?

I wish I knew.

Simba is a dear friend. When our daughter was born we were at my father in laws out side. She was sleeping in her carrier and this kitten crawled into her lap and slept! Well that kitten came home with us and we named him Simba. He's the same age as our daughter. At Halloween time, he walked with us to go trick or treating! He's been a Uncle to all the kittens we've ever had. He's a very special cat.

So you didn't see him from Sunday until Wed? Wasn't the vet able to tell what happened to him? Is it possible he has been shot?
Prayers for him.

Well to be honest, I don't remember if I saw him on Sunday. My husband had told me we were finished the night before, so......not too with it the next day. But yep, I know he was gone from Sunday night to Wednesday. The vet could only guess as to what happened. I will ask my vet tomorrow if it is posible he was shot. OH my! What a horrible thought.

well, the good news is, the maggots probably kept him from blood poisoning/gangrene. i saw a medical show on television (more than one) that said maggots only eat decayed/dead tissue, leaving the healthy tissue. some places actually use them in bandages to get rid of decaying/dead tissue on wounds, especially in diabetics. i hope he's better soon!

Laureen, I hope you are correct about the maggots.

I got to see him this morning and he's still in critical condition but he was alert and started purring when he saw me. Then he started meowing. He stood up some because the vet had been bathing him and putting some meds on his ouchie. So now it's a wait and see if he can fight all the infection and toxicity.

The vet said he might be able to come home for the weekend but then will probably have to come back in Monday. It's going to be a long process for sure.

Thank you ALL for the prayers and well wishes. I believe they are gonna work for my Simba!!!~~Charity
