need vibes

My son is walking home from school by himself for the first time today.
I am scared out of my mind. I know I can trust my son, it's everyone else I worry about. I want to run up there and pick him myself, but, I know I shouldn't. He wants to do this and I know he can....oh, I hate cutting the cords!!
Please send me some vibes, and restraints for me to let him do this...he's in the 3rd grade and he's almost 9.
