Hi everyone,

After seeing the thread with all the unbelievably creative questions Abbysmom has to answer- I knew I've come to the right place for some good ideas.

I am putting together a benefit yard sale in a few weeks benefiting the NH Spay and Alter Services (NHSAS) and Animal Allies. Animal Allies focuses all their attn on feral TNR.

I have been advertising like crazy locally, trying to solicit truck/trailer loads of unwanted items (Freecycle idea, for those who use it). I've had a lot of great feedback so far, so this has been great.

I think I am going to have someone who does cartoon caricatures also be there. I think it would be great and raise a good amount of money. I was thinking they could get half of whatever is charged, and the other half go to the event.

We are going to have a bake sale (my 8 yr old and nephew will head this). I was also thinking of soliciting some businesses to see if they would donate anything of significant value- so we could do some type of raffle.

Does anyone have any other ideas that I am not thinking of? Anything I could do to make this as successful as possible? It's going to be in one of the busiest cities in NH - so exposure will be great. I've also looked into advertising in 2 local newspapers and found out I could get a free ad (a full size) in one newspaper under calendar events.

I've also contacted Peta about getting some brochures on S/N and other things. We are also going to do an 'adoption board/booth' as well as an information booth for Animal Allies and NHSAS and what their wish list's are and of course try and encourage people to volunteer, foster and/or provide a barn home. Of course we'll also have a donation jar.

I was thinking of getting something in qty (off of ebay or something) to sell but have it be more of a donation type of thing. I.E., Any donations over $5.00 get you 'xyz'. Can't think of what 'xyz' should/could be though! I saw some kitty stuffed animals (lot of 60) that were xmas themed on ebay but I forgot the item was ending so I missed out! It only sold for $33.00 then an additional $12 in shipping I think.

Anyhow, any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

Maybe if you post this on the Cat Lounge forum, you will get even more ideas. If you need a site for inexpensive, cheap toys, you could check out www.jrousek.com, which is the home company for GiggleTime Toys. They specialize in the small give-away toys that dentists & doctors give out. They offer the some of the best prices, and you could even mention that you are trying to beat out Oriental Trading Company, their main competitor. I used to work for the company, bringing back former clientele, and the prices for the quality of toys was excellent (they do a great job of keeping an eye on what the competiton offers, and for how much).
If you could get the manpower, you could have a "fishing booth" for small children; you could put the toys in a paper bag, to be tied onto the end of the fishing line.
Also, I recommend the site for shopping for birthday party goodies, etc. The toys are always a big hit at my grandson's parties. And I still wear the adjustable birth-stone rings from 10 years ago - people think that the stones are real!

Wishing you great success on your fundraiser!!!

Great ideas, thank you!

I actually did post originally in the Cat Lounge but evidently it was moved here. Oh well.

Thanks again!

Ha, definitely not me! Hehe. You brought up a good idea though - I was thinking of asking someone to make a few really nice 'cat' quilts to raffle off. I have a friend that does that stuff so you just reminded me to ask her!

Thank you!

What about in the bake sale, making Fudge and then selling a few cubes in little bags. We sell them for 0.50c and they a real good seller!

I was going to have a bake sale and let my son and his nephew run that. I was thinking of making cat and dog white and dark chocolate candy bars as well as the normal stuff- brownies, candy apples, cookies, etc. I wanted to get something healthy in there as well. Then maybe serve hot apple cider (since it will be towards the end of October) and other beverages.

Thanks!

Well, hopefully you'll get some good responses anyway!
BTW, I did glance at a magazine with Halloween ideas, and it showed how to make cat cupcakes. But I didn't pay attention to which magazine it is  Maybe if I go to the Lounge, I can find someone who either has that magazine or knows how to tell us how to make cat cupcakes - they are so adorable - they should sell faster than beer at a St.Paddy's celebration!

Ha, thanks! =) Not a bad idea!

I still have to get ahold of my friend who does quilts.. I really think those things would go over well in a raffle.
