There's a stray who's been around my house lately.. How can I catch the kitty?

I would like to put food out there but I'm afraid to do that cuz I don't want ants and bugs in the food..

Any suggestions!!!

You can set the food dish in a pie plate or other flat, shallow container of water. It will keep out the ants, and the cat can reach across to reach the food. It won't keep out flies or carrion bees (aka "yellow Jacket" and "meat bees"). If raccoons are not a problem, you could set the food out at night, so that ants will be your main concern.
Bless you for giving this kitty a chance at a better situation!
{{{Prayers and vibes}}} on success very soon! :angel2:

What catsknowme is suggesting is putting the dry food in a plate inside of another plate that contains water. The ants will not want to cross the "moat" to get to the food but a cat can stretch beyond the water and eat the dry food. Also, I recommend you feed either at dawn or dusk...and don't leave the food out all day or you will draw other critters to the food.

Hi
what organization are you from in st louis? I live in the city and am currently looking for a companion for my ChiChi.She is 16 and has a bit of a cattitude, so I am looking for a male with a good spirit who can tollerate her.

Sorry to get off the subject of your rescue attempt: in my experience if you give kitty enough time to get used to you he/she will be a little more trusting and you can slowly move the food inside the house. As far as the bugs I too would suggest you place the food ( in a bowl) on a shallow lid filled with a little water as far as the ants are concerned the flies will still get to it.Do you have a garage or some sort of outside dwelling?I have gotten ferels to trust me slowly but surely by putting their food, water, blanky in a dog house, let them get used to me feeding them and changing bowls, bedding etc.. then move them in the house and socialize them.Well good luck,ChiChi and I send lots of kitty love

does she run away from your house? cause if she is just hiding you could try next time just leaving the food in the spot where she was just at and see if she comes back in a few minutes.
