Thanks for all of the stories of missing kitties.
Buzz, Missy, and Emmie are just loafers and love to make their presence clear. Ashly is my first hider so I guess I need to get used to that.

Glad she has re-appeared. My Susie hids on top of the kitchen cupboards when she is in a strop!! This is usually after a trip to the vets or after getting her nails clipped. She is a kitty who just loves to climb in drawers closets and cupboard tho. Her brother would rather just lie on his bean bad bed and be stroked!

When we first moved into this house, Max disappeared inside the house. I looked everywhere for 2 days....still no Max! On my 100th search I went outside and was calling for him and heard his faint cry from somewhere above. I finally spotted him inside one of the turban attic vents(the round old-time vents that spin around in the wind and suck the hot air out of the attic) He had gotten into attic somehow from inside house and tried to get out through the turban. I ended up breaking it apart to get him out. Hubby was not pleased!

I lost one up a chimney once - the trap closed behind him and I was looking for hours before I heard a faint meow. He need several baths after that! My girls will climb into kitchen drawers and get behind the cabinets sometimes, or into the bottom of the sofa bed if it is left open a crack.

Spooky our 14 yr old rex likes to "hide" - most of the time he's curled up under blankets on the top shelf in our closet. Unless we find him before we leave, he winds up being locked up in the closet and/or room till we come home - just lucky he doesn't need to use the litter pan before we come home.

Usually he does answer when you call his name; however, if he's sound asleep you have a harder time finding him.

Don't they drive you NUTSO?!
I KEEP losing mine! I KNOW I did not let them out the door but still -------! I FINALLY found Panther's hiding place - it is under the cover I put on the chairs. They are SUPPOSED to go UNDER the chair and the cover will hide them, but he pulls this bit.

I play with him with Da Bird and to find him I called him and then got out da Bird and banged it from one side of the floor to another. He heard it and suddenly appeared!

Now BEN --- HE got lost as a kitten. I thought he jumped out my bathroom window when I went back in the bathroom to close it. It was 7 AM and I went from home to home asking people if they had seen him.

Finally I had to take my dog to Davis and when I got home 10 hours later I searched door to door again.

Then, since I was crying I went back in the bathroom and through my kleenex down the commode, AND I heard a soft meow. I called him and heard it ag ain. I ran outside but no Ben! I came back inside and still no Ben so I flushed the toilet again and heard him again. I looked under the sink, tore the closet apart and STILL could not find him. FINALLY I pulled out the huge towel drawer and THERE he was. HOW he got in the drawer and how it closed on him I have no idea but BOY Was I glad to see him!

Course he has a better trick now! He goes out in the back on HARNESS & Leash BUT he has learned to let the rope leash go slack and suddenly he runs and jumps (pulling the leash out of my hand!!!!!) up and over the fence. That in itself is not so bad as I put the ladder up and pull him back up or he jumps back up, BUT on occaisons he gets free of his harness and I have to sneak in to back yards till I find where he has got to! Now THAT scares me to death!

My Lil Guy just spent two days avoiding me. He has found some places in my craft closet amid the plastic totes. I still don't know where. He first went in there when a maintenance man was there changing the front door and he was locked in that room with the closet so I KNEW he was there somewhere. Couldn't find him. I looked all over in that closet minus pulling all the boxes and totes out. Doesn't help he's mostly black though. He came out hours later stretching and yawning.

Also, once when we lived in another apartment I lost the kits, and they were still kittens. I searched high and low and couldn't find them. I was standing in my kitchen (like a 6' x 6' space) and I turn around and one is behind me. I'm like, "where did you come from?" Then another appeared seemingly from nowhere. It was actually a couple days later when I realized the baseboard under the cabinet in the L of the counter was loose and they had pried it off and were actually hanging out UNDER THE OVEN!!!!! One even disappeared in there when they were full grown and I'd never have thought they'd fit. But when we were moving and Lil Guy was fixing to take a sedative, I got him trapped in the kitchen and you should have seen his cartoon impression trying to squeeze his 14 lb. body in there when his head barely cleared the opening.

mine have gotten 'lost' in my tiny, 927 square foot house! i only have doors on the closets, bathroom & laundry room, so they rarely get shut in anywhere... i think they use the 'purloined letter' method of hiding

My cat has magically teleported herself into closed rooms and probably the best place to start looking for a cat is in drawers and cupboards. And make sure you look *behind* everything because cats of any color are chameleons and will blend in with the wood.
