I know I've posted about cats needing homes in the past.. this one is a little different.

The organization I am volunteering with was just contacted about a colony of ferals that has 30+ cats, which include kittens of all ages, adult cats as well as pregnant cats.

The problem is, the man that was feeding them is closing on a new house w/in a week or so and will not be able to take care of them anymore. We're trying to find out who the new owners are and if they are willing to feed them but we all know that may very well not happen. We need to find anyone who can offer a barn home or foster home for these cats until we can place them all.

Please let me know if you can help out in any way- thank you!!

Wish I would help!! But considering I'm pretty much on the opposite side of the world, I don't think I can help much!!!

Are they at a farm now? Could one of the neighboring farms feed them for a while, to give you time to rehome?

I know it would be a challenge, for example my outside cats don't even all get along themselves. They certainly wouldn't want my neighbors cats moving in! But with that said, if the neighbors had to move, it wouldn't be too hard for me to feed their cats for a month or two until they could be rehomed.

Maybe the current caretaker can talk to the neighbors?

Excellent advice, thank you! I am planning on calling him tomorrow so I am going to see what he thinks we can do for them. There still may be a chance the new people moving in may help but tend to doubt it. I mean, it would be one thing if it were one or two, but we're talking a lot of cats. Not to mention we all know not everyone is a cat lover (unfortunately) so we have to cross our fingers the person moving in even likes cats!

The town he lives in is definitely the true meaning of 'country' - so his nearest neighbor may very well be a ways away.

Thanks so much for the advice, I will definitely ask him and see what he thinks.

Wish us luck!

Even in the country, the cats do roam over whatever they consider to be their territory. Our neighbors that have cats live about a 1/2 mile away, across a busy road. When our barn cats died, and we adopted ferals, we had 3 of their kittens move in with us, one at a time. They were attracted by a heating pad and food. All were male.

If there is a home nearby that would take over the cats, the cats would move for the food. However, it is unlikely that anyone in the country who likes cats doesn't already have their own, who won't want new ones moving in! But if the new homeowner would allow it, a cat friendly neighbor could stop over and feed the kits for a month or so.

I'll definitely let you know what happens when I call. I may even go visit and try to evaluate everything. They're a good hour and fifteen minutes away but that may be what it takes.

Thanks again!

I'm in Rye, right on the Seacoast. I just took on a declawed 9-year-old torti girl with litterbox issues, so I've got my fostering hands full at the moment, but I thought if the colony was nearby I could lend a hand. I just moved out here from Oakland, CA, which unfortunately is where all my rescue contacts are based out of, so I'm not much help on this coast (yet)...
