Fluffy is 10 months old and a huge fuzzball. This past week he has been laying around, coughing a little but never coughing anything up. Plus, his meow doesn't sound the same! It's like he's got a cold or something. I thought maybe while wrestling with his brother he accidently got a claw in his throat. His purr doesn't sound the same either and he occassionally bobs his head like he's choking. Is this a hairball? If so, wouldn't it have expelled itself already? His appetite is still as ravenous as ever, but he just isn't quite as playful. His sound has changed and I'm really worried about him. Should I go buy some hairball remedy stuff? He's an outdoors kitty and gets to sleep inside at night. These babies are soooooooo spoiled!

Take him to the vet. He may have pharyngitis or something caught in his throat.

dido...I also would have him checked out - his lack of usual spunk might be a good indicator that something is going on. Self-medicating is really not the way to go unless you are 100% sure. All the best to your baby

cathouse,

Last year, Fluffy's meow sounded funny, too. It sounded like she had a scratchy meow. I took her to the vet after I found a scab on her throat. They shaved it, & sure enough there was a deep scratch. The vet thought maybe she had gotten clawed by one of the others & it got inflamed. She was fine though, & within a few days her voice was back to normal. I'd take yours in to see if maybe that's what it is!!
