People seeing red over pink locker room

Well, its been over 5 hours since anyone has posted on IMO, so I decided I'd look for a controversal story... and here we have it, folks ... the pink locker room!!! Should they renovate or leave it like it is? Are they demeaning people or are those who say that overreacting?

I can't even believe that story!! I personally think it's a pretty silly thing to be upset about.

When my ex husband and I rented our first house, it was dark out. We didn't realize until the next day that the exterior was pink. He said he wouldn't have rented it. I thought it was hysterical.

I think the story is too.

I like pink, but even if I didn't, I wouldn't see a problem. What color would they rather it be? Maybe they'd rather it have words on the walls that read "You're the greatest!" "You can win!" "GO YOUR TEAM!" in their own school colors every time.

woah now...easy there...time to put down the PC signs.....

The psyche guy who started the tradition wasnt lying...I have taken a lot of psyche classes and pink and green are supposid calming colors....thats also why hospitals walls are green.....

Its demeaning to women???? huh????

I swear all these PC crusaders need to carry around voice recorders so they can listen to themselves, and hear the rediculous babble that they spout out all the time.......

They are far from effective...more so embaressing...IMO

That's what I was thinking too, I mean what color do they want it to be? Something "manly" like blue? I mean c'mon. How silly!!

I can't stand pink, but that's just me.

It's just a freakin' color.

Dont ya see silly.....if it was blue...then it would be even more demeaning towards women, cause girls play sport too.....and it would be quite sexist to put it across that only boys play sport.....duh....I think they should make it a nice shade of puke green.........

but you know, this is true: pink had a calming and passive effect on people.
i know 'calm-down' rooms in prisons/jails and mental hospitals are sometimes painted pink for this reason. hey, if they want to paint it, paint it - paint is not that expensive. they can get the jocks to do it, too!

And the idiotic colleges are the very worst with this PC bull. And what is worse people cave in to it, the wimps.
good grief its just a color!
You know, pink used to be a masculine color that symbolized boldness and strength....
It's just a colour!!..someone would complain if they painted it blue I'm sure!

I could understand it if some opposing team said something. Or if the men on campus said something. But for a woman to say that "pink is demeaning to women" just makes her sound like a femi-nazi freak. I bet a lot of the girls on campus with PINK in their dorm rooms would like to know they are demeaning themselves.

How ridiculous! They are supposed to have the advantage on their home turf, so a pink locker room will help a little.
It is a physical reaction that being placed in front of a pink wall will actually make a person weaker and less aggressive. That is why some jails are pink.

Haven't these people kept up, with the fashion news? THE hot color, for men this fall, is PINK! Stores are selling out of "REAL Men Wear Pink" T-shirts and pink Converse All-Stars.

Personally, I can't stand pink - I think that they should have gone with a nice shade of lavender

Ya know, I consider myself a pretty active feminist...and I LOVE the color pink. It's really hard for me to hear that with all I do to further my cause, I'm actually just demeaning myself by wearing this color

Ugh. It has nothing to do with colors. They're meaningless...pink is accessible to everyone, female or not. It has a lot to do with the choices we make and the way we are treated and the respect we command. Is repainting a locker room really going to cause a huge-scale paradigm shift? Some people just get too caught up in stupid details while missing the big picture.

I think this pink locker room is a GREAT idea! It supposed to keep the other team from getting "pumped" for the game. Pink is proven to be a color that you can't really get mad around. I personally think it's a WONDERFUL idea! And hey it helps your home team out a lot. I personally think this lady needs to get a life!

Deep down inside i ADORED pink. But i think i've seriously overdosed on it in the last 12 months so... no pink for me for a while. Right now i'm going through a grey phase...

Sorry to digress, but at least youll have excellent pairings to make from the pink/gray items...

On the locker room. Wow. Im with everyone else - get something real to worry about. I also fully support school tradition! Keep the Pink!

Several of you made comments like this and I've heard it before -- that pink makes people calm, etc. However when I search the internet for a study of some kind I couldn't find anything. I''m beginning to think this is one of those rumors that got started and everyone believes but has no substance.

Does anyone know of any studies on this? (I want to believe.)
