I have a very weird cat behavior scenario to present to you all. I'm curious if anyone has EVER experienced anything like this.

My cat has met my mother's boyfriend three times. For some reason, Professor Growleypants hisses at every interaction. He often hisses at new people to assert himself, but usually he gets over it after a few minutes when he is used to them, and generally by the second or third meeting he is used to the scent and couldn't care less. He definitely hisses more at men--probably because he lives with three women.

However, the WEIRD thing is that every time the boyfriend has come over the cat has ended up BARFING. This can't be a coincidence--three times! And my cat is a rare puker, he's a short hair, and the only other circumstance in which he's puked has been when the cat sitter fed him the whole day's food at once, rather than the multiple small servings he's used to, and he's gorged himself on it all at once. Could the cat be barfing on purpose to mark his territory?? Any ideas on this cat mystery?

I don't think cats use vomit to mark their territory. Is is possible that your boyfriend is using some kind of cologne that makes the cat sick?

The other thing is, is the cat terrified of your boyfriend?

Awww, sounds to me like he's stressed with this meeting

Cassie is a rare barfer, yet if she's overly stressed by interactions, that how she reacts.

I also know that she doesn't hiss at people in general (she'll hiss at her brother Napoleon LOL), but when she does, it's usually because that person is no good
. I'm not saying that your mom's beau is no good, but its possible the cat is picking up something he doesn't like about him...maybe another cat? a dog? Is he loud? Just some ideas...not to pick on him LOL. I know my cat won't like someone if they are too loud or smell like cigarette smoke or something foreign to them. Anyway, hope this helps (a little maybe LOL).

As bizzare as this behavior may be to you......its not surprising......

I dont mean to get too personal...but it you moms boyfriend a good person?...I ask this because cats and all animals for that matter are much more sensitive to things then us silly humans are......

Your kit may be picking up on something that the rest of you can't

When i was younger I hung out with this guy names C.J.......I thought he was the greatest...smart, charming, but my parents dog hated him.....loathed him....Libby loved everyone, but when he came in the house Libby would get into instant defensive position, ears back..growling..ect...a couple of times she lunged at him......we couldnt understand why.....

a few years later c.j. was in jail for raping 3 girls.........We should have heeded Libbys warning.......

Now iam not saying that you moms boyfriend is a rapiest or killer...my story is a big extream......I just wanted to give you something to think about....kist instincts are very perceptive.....

Nebula, I have a similar story (but not as "serious" per se as the CJ issue)...Cassie is a good detector of personality. In the last building we lived in, we were the contacts for some contractors doing work, an electrician and a roofer. We knew the electrician very well and she got all roly poly with him, was flirting with him, etc (she's usually only like that with BF)...then the roofer came in and she started hissing and growling and running to hide. Very weird.

The roofer ran off with about $900 of our landlord's money, and his boss's truck. Turns out the boss had just hired him and thought he was trustworthy. Cassie picked up on it a way no one else had.

sorry for laughing
but I know for a fact that my chichi can throw up on purpose. After living with her for 16+ years I have witnessed this several times. If she is upset with her food (doesnt like that flavor, wrong brand etc...)she will tell me if I do not give her new food she will SWIFTLY eat the unwanted food and come in whatever room I am in and barf!!!! As to say nah, if you dont want to give me what i want this is what happens!!(yes, she is the queen ruler of my house, life everything!!!
so him throwing up when the bf comes over doesnt surprise me, think about it your all happy to see the bf, you spend the whole time talking paying attention, talking with the bf and that makes kitty jealous
try including him in with the bf pet him, hold him in your lap etc... hope you have luck ,ChiChi and I send you both lots of kitty love
