Hello,

The sad time is coming to split up kittens and mum.

We are keeping one and losing two, but at least the two are going to the same home.

Do we just do it and put up with mum hating it, or is there a better way?

I really am not looking forward to this

When Rusty was adopted, I had taken Sugartoes and two kittens to the adoptive home. Sugar did cry for about 5 minutes on the way home in the car, but otherwise adjusted well to the loss. A few days later her last kitten went to a new foster home (with other kitten playmates), and Sugartoes went to the vet to be spayed.

Did she miss the babies? Hard to say. We like to assign human emotions to animals, but in reality, cats often drive their kittens off as they grow up. And poor Sugartoes had 3 litters within 6 months, with many of the kittens not surviving. To me, it is kinder to end that cycle, than to worry about her missing the kittens that are flourishing in their new homes! She seems very happy now, with Garfield and Festus as her companions.
