I have two boxes and two kittens.

I might consider three, if I had the space, a larger place, or if either cat seemed picky about boxes. They don't seem picky, though. Even when I had the flu and didn't scoop for two days, they were fine. And they don't each have 'their' box, they'll use whichever is closer. Or the box in whichever room I'm in.

I have six kitties. I only have one cat that has the run of the house and he is indoor/outdoor so he has a litter tray which he only uses probably once a week or more often in wet weather. His tray is in the Laundry.

My cat Benja who is penned on his own has his own tray.

In the cat room Holly, Sophie, Bridget & Muffin have two big trays between them.

2 cats, 2 boxes. One in the kitchen, one in the bedroom.

I got 2 because when they were really young, they couldn't get to the main box in time, and I got tired of accidents.

Though I could probably get rid of one of them now, it is nice to have 2 boxes, since the litter stays fresher longer. Also, I have to say: Thank GOD for silica litter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 cats, 2 boxes (one in the living room and one in the bedroom). Freckles refused to use the one in the living room until recently, Bob will use either but he tends to use the living room one more, espcially overnight (even though he's not locked out of the bedroom.)

Living in a split level home with full basement i have 3 litter boxes in basement
3 on main floor and 1 on upper floors for our old "Gericat". A bit over kill for 4 cats, but it works. we use the clumpable litter from BJ's (thats benkley and johnson wholesale club)
Although now i like the idea of a kiddie swiming pool for litter.

Silica is silicon dioxide. Genericlly its called sand. you typically see it in small white bags sometimes supplied with shoes or electronic devices. it looks like fine granular particles. it is highly moisture absorbant. Pure silica is not friendly to use on humans or pets. It causes lung troubles with the dust. There are silica based litters that work pretty well im told due to the moisture absorbancy. I havent tried it, im not changing the queens and king's litter set up in anyway

One litter box for our one kitty, but when we had Molly, we had 4 litterboxes for one kitty. She had litterbox issues for the last year of her life.

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
Upon my first visit to my current vet, I was told you should have 1.5 boxes PER CAT. Now I have two 'kids' and three boxes, though one box is out of commission. NO good place to stick it in the new apartment just yet... that and I couldn't get enough of my usual litter to make up all three of them.

If one box per cat is working for someone, then there's no reason to add another. I have the third as 'back-up.'

Speaking of which, I should get to the grocery store. I'll check for litter there. I wish Petco or Petsmart would hurry up and build a store within walking distance of me. We NEED a store close by.
