Hi, I'm new to the forums, and looking for a little bit of help. My bf and I just brought home two adorable kittens, a brother and sister, on friday. Last night I noticed that the little girl was squinting her left eye. Upon closer inspection she had what i can only describe as an eye-boogie (white-ish yellow mucous?) going across her eye. We cleaned it out very carefully, but she is still squinting it a bit. She is still eating, drinking, purring, and being a curious kitten all around. I was wondering if anyone could help me out as to if i should call a vet, wait a day or so, or if i am being an over-reacting kitten person.

Thank you for any help!

Eye gunk can be a symptom of an upper respiratory tract infection (kitty cold) which can be quite hard for little kittens to shake w/out vet treatment. I'd keep an eye on her tonight and get her to the vets tomorrow for some antibiotics--bring her little buddy along too to be examined--you never know what little bugs these guys can catch.
If you got them from a shelter, call the shelter and let them know the kits are sick and you had to take them to the vet--many shelters will reimburse your vet expenses, at least partially.

Good luck with the little guys!

Welcome to TCS. Best to have your little girl checked out by a vet as it could be a case of URI.

With cats, it's always better to be safe than sorry, especially if they are still kittens. If they fall sick, they can deteriorate very quickly. Get them to see a vet and hopefully it's just a little bit of gunk. Even if they don't turn up sick, it's a good idea to let a vet take a look at them so you know if they are developing properly etc. Best of luck with the little ones! They must be soooo cute
