My seven year old persian cat has been trying to urinate in her litterbox, but little if any comes out. She eats and drinks just fine. Her rear end smells very uriny. Any idea what this could be. Urinary tract infection? She has had this for about a week.

Definitely sounds like a UTI. Please get your kitty to the vet, ASAP. She could be in a great deal of discomfort and could suffer irreperable damage to her health unless she is seen by a vet and treated.

OMG! I have been having the same trouble with my cat Flick. I took her in - in july and she was diagnosed with "bladder infection" they gave her 6 weeks of antibodics (I kept taking her back to the vet) They kept telling me she was fine. In the last 2 weeks she has stopped eating so I finally took her to another vet for a second opinion. (AFTER she went from over 11 lbs to 7.2 lbs) They have diagnosed her with high pH in her urine. The treatment? Special food with garlic powder added by me (per vets instructions) Good luck, hopefully you can find a cure before the $800 mark on vet bills ....... like me.

uh-oh,

she told me to put garlic powder (she specifically said NOT garlic salt) to make the bland pH specialized food more appealing, since Flick was being to starve herself. It's working like a charm so far...

Does anyone else know about this garlic poision thing?! I will have to watch kitty very closely.

I didnt mean to scare you...im sure your vet knows what hes talking about...I just know garlic and onions are both from the same family, and that they are both poisonious....they cause anemia.....

im sure the levels the vet is asking you to add, is ok....i just found it odd

no, I appreciate your input...I am going to call the vet tomorrow. I actually joined this website, out of desperation of what to do next, and I read the thread for someone who sounded JUST like I did at the begining of july.....

I don't want to do anything wrong, I feel like I've lost so much ground on this already, and a protruding backbone on my kitty is backing me up!

Thanks, AGAIN!
