Ok, here is is the situation! I live in a duplex with my husband. My best friend lives up stairs. A few months ago some guys moved in 3 houses down from us.
I think it is a half way house... They look to be different ages and come and go in a huge van. Their is also an older man living there. I saw one of them get arrested a few months back. There now you know alittle about them.
Well, My friend and I hate going outside, going for walks, or even coming home while they are outside. They wistle, and yell things like "hay baby" etc.
This is really upsetting. I don't know if there is anything I can do about this. Please help!

I think the best thing to do is ignore them. I would be a little paranoid talking to them. Just always have someone with you when you need to walk by there. Is there anyway to find out if it is a state funded home? Maybe talk to the proper people to let them know what is going on?

Maybe you could findout whether or not it is a government run half-way house.....if it is, you may have some options in the matter....talking to the people running it and such....and threatening to file complaints with thier superiors.....

other then that...maybe the cops will do something....but doubtful......

you could sue for sexual harassment....though it is unpressidented outside of the office......

thats all i got.....

good luck

I think nebula is right. The first thing you should do is find out what kind of a place it is. You should not have to be a prisoner in your own home, just because some creeps do not know how to behave. I bet if threatened with jail they would leave you alone.

If they have been in jail, that means nothing!

You may also want to find out if they are renting, and who their landlord is. Talk to the landlord and let them know what is going on, and if it continues you will follow up with the local police. I've found the threat of involving the police usually forces the landlord to take action.

Just call the cops and let them know what is going on - Harrassment is harrassment no matter who they are. You should not feel uncomfortable in your own home.

I worked in a group home with mentally disabled people in a residential area.
A lot of them you wouldn't know anything was wrong from a distance.

If this is any type of halfway house or group home they will have a supervisor in the home at all times.
You need to contact them, knock on the door or like someone else said contact the police dept. and find out who operates this home.
Then go to the administration or supervisor and let them know exactly what is going on.
This kind of behavior is not tolerated in these situations and they will put a stop to it or place him/them in another home. Threaten as a last resort.
If it is neither of the above I would notify the local police dept. and have them give them a warning of some sort.

IA. If you need me, just meow..
Just be careful, I always worry that stupid people will do something that will harm my cats while I'm not home(even thought they are all indoors only). Call me paranoid but well.. that's just the way I am. Thankfully I don't have very many weirdos to worry about.

Yeah i knew the police would be worthless....

but its cool you got the owners name......i would definitly call them......but you have no obligations to give them your name.....just tell them your concerns, and that you are willing to peruse this matter to the athourities if something isnt done

That would have been my suggestion as well - call the landlord anonymously. Tell them you've witnessed many obscene and offensive behaviors by them and you would like something to be done before the police are involved (although they didn't do anything the first time around).

Most landlords, if they're at all decent, care about what their tenants are doing to their apartment and neighbors, so try to hit that point home.

Also, to be on the safe side.. check the local state sex offender registry - you never know!! Ha, while you're at it - check America's Most Wanted!

I totally agree about staying anonymous if you can - I'm wicked paranoid about something happening to my kitties as well!

One of the best things NOT to do, is to let them know by your actions or body language is that they are getting to you and your friend. Preditors feast on fear.
Dont divert your eyes but dont stare either...show no fear only rational caution.

If possible have your husbands with you as you walk by. If anyother reason just to be seen with your hubbies.
and THEY ULTIMATE thing not to do is ANYTHING confrentational toward them when you are alone! for the safety of your cats and you!
