Hi, I'm Liselot from the Netherlands. I study at Leiden university and live in Middelburg with my boyfriend Duncan and our four kitties.

Ernesto and Mimosa are 1.5 years old, they are a cross between a farmcat and some kind of pointed longhair. Mimosa is a mitted sealpoint longhair and Ernesto a longhaired brown tabby with white (also mitted). Our own special mix
Before I found Ernesto and Mimosa my boyfriend and I had never owned a cat, we've had lots of fun and learned loads over the last year. I've been looking into cat genetics and breed standards to figure out what kind of cat could've been their father, but I haven't reached a conclusion. Maybe I can find some enlightenment here !

Ernesto and Mimosa brought us so much fun, we wanted to expand our little family. Over the year we had become very interested in different cat breeds, but especially the Somali. After a few months searching we found a great breeder with a small cattery. She had planned her first litter of Somali's and the second litter of Sacred Birmans, another one of our favorite breeds. The litter of Somali's and Birmans grew up together, we got a ruddy Somali guy named Flynn (4 months now) and a sealtabbypoint Birman boy named dEUS (5 months) , they love eachother and our older cats as well. We feel our family is now complete and hope it stays unchanged for 20+ years.

Since one month I've stopped feeding a dry diet/kibble, I've researched cat foods and right now the cats eat a complete preprepared raw food, supplemented with BARF-components. (BARF = Bones And Raw Food / Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) The cats are so shiny and they seem to love their food now ! I hope to be able to share some insights about this method of feeding here.

regards, Liselot

Welcome! I'm also pretty new here. I currently feed my fab four sort of a mixed died of 50% dry food and 50% BARF, (or "BARFish", I give cooked fish once a week), and I'm planning go completely, or at least mostly BARF, little by little. Good to have other beginners here.

Welcome Liselot!

I have fond memories of the couple of months I spent in the Netherlands, even though I was working very hard. I did see a few cats in my wanderings, which made me lonely for my (then 6) cats at home. My one friend in Amsterdam, who is head of the math department, was of little use, since his family has a rabbit. (However, he has written me about his travels over the years, and I was especially fond of his anecdote about encountering a hungry little cat in Indonesia & ordering milk for it. The cat would not eat it, and he was informed that Indonesian cats like to eat rice.)
Welcome to this site!

Hi all, haven't been here regularly, classes and stuff.

Yeah, our "family" grew rather quickly, but four is our max. We could house more, but I'd go crazy trying to give them the attention they're due ! They are strictly indoor, but go out on a leash. Ever tried to handle four with two persons ?
Plus that we realize they're gonna grow old sometime which will probably mean they'll need more care.

Trixshar, I loved the story that Indonesian cats prefer milk over rice ! (edit;other way round) And living in Amsterdam should be pretty nice, even for a few months. I live in a provincial backwater, Duncan and me would love to live near such venues as Paradiso and The Melkweg where all the bands come to play on their European tours.

Kattengek: yeah, they came from Jolijn ! I'm on kattenpraat too, under my own name. Don't post much, though, haven't even shown off the kitties.
