They usually get along very well. Yesterday, they had a fight, grabbing onto eachother and trying to bite their faces. We separated them, then put them back together, and everything was fine until now. They had another fight, and one is bleeding from the head and leaving little bloody footprints all around.
Both are missing large tufts off feathers. This has really shaken me up for some reason. They are separated again, and I'm buying a second cage tomarrow.

Yikes. Sounds...not fun!
I have zero bird expertise so I can't really help you out here, but best of luck! Sounds like one of em mustve really made the other mad! Yikes!

The one bird has stopped bleeding.
Our neighbors were nice enough to lend me another cage so birdy won't have to spend the day in a box.

Are they mature birds?
What color are their ceres? (the fleshy part where the nostrils are)

I'm pretty sure they are mature. One's 'nose-area' is light blue, the other purple.

You have a pair, and it sounds to me like someone wants to mate, and the other doesn't.
Typically, females are the bullies in these situations.

Same ol' story ... one is in the mood, the other isn't.

Seriously, though, I hope both your birds are okay.

Easily fixed.
Just house them in seperate cages, but keep the cages next to each other.
Hopefully, it won't take long before they are both out of the breeding mood.
In this case, it sounds as though the male (blue nostrils) is the one in breeding condition.
Females' ceres will get dark, crusty brown when they are ready to breed.
Out of breeding condition, males' ceres are pale blue-pink.

Unless of course you have lutinos or albinos, then, the only way to distinguish gender accurately is when the female's cere is crusty looking in breeding condition.

We have them separated, thank goodness. Birdie love must hurt.
Does anyone know If we'll be able to ever put them together again?

You should be able to once 'the urge' has left

It could be, too, that the cage isn't big enough to suit them, I know this often causes keet squabbles.

Well, that explains alot. Our female bullied the male around alot.. it was anew female and we thought she was just mean. The male has since passed, after being with us for a very long time.. and we are hesitating about getting her another bird friend, for fear that she will beat one up.. if we get a female, will that solve the problem?

It might.

Parakeets actually do better in trios, but for the life of me, I can't remember the best gender combination.
It's been years since I've had keets.
