My partner and I just adopted a cat last week and we love him but we are not fans of the smell of his food. We got iams for him because we heard that was a pretty healthy food but it's making our whole first floor smell like cat food. Can any one suggest a cat food we can try that won't have this problem or maybe a product we can use in conjunction with his food to keep the odor under control. Thanks!

Sometimes it sits for a couple of hours because our cat seems to be a grazer. We give him food twice a day (once in the morning, once at night) but he doesn't just sit down and gobble it all up when we put it out, he takes a few bites, comes back later, has some more.

We give him a little wet food in the morning with some dry stuff (we were told if we give him dry food only he might have urinary tract problems) and we give him dry food at night. Both seem smelly to us.

The wet food should only be out 20 minutes max, then tossed. It air spoils quickly introducing bacteria.

The dry food, try getting one of those self-automated feeders. You fill up the cylinder, cap it, and just a little spills out when the cat eats it.

Your cat food should not smell that bad if it is dry food. Wet food will stink and spoil rather quickly.

Will the self feeder work with our cat's habits since he doesn't eat everything at once? Does it dispense as the cat eats or does it just dispense 1 serving at a time (which would have the same effect as us putting the food out)? Is there a particular one you recommend?

We may just be sensitive to odors but we find both the dry and wet stuff stinky.

Thanks! I will give that a try. Is there a particular feeder you can suggest?

Personally, I would make my own- all you need is a small container with a tight lid, a bowl and something to cut a hole in the container near the bottom of the outside for the food to spill out of-
