I met a local Bengal breeder ... I have yet to met the cats or see the cattery ... The cat I was really intersted in was adopted ... She has a few other juvenile to adolencents .. The female she didnt think was a good match for my household( good I sooo want a boy).. She suggested a kitten... Here is my hesitation ...
Kandie is 17 years old and took 6 months to get along with Zoey ...

WOuld all of you breeders give you two cents.. kitten or older cat ( 6 months to a 3 yr old range)

Hi I am new here and also a bengal breeder...Not knowing your older cat, but speaking from experience, older cats tend to take to kittens better - they tend to take on a "parental" role - an older kitten may already be set in his ways. However what concerns me is that you haven't seen the cats or the cattery...did they refuse to show you them?? I know that the only time I don't let people out into the cattery portion of our home is if we have a mom with new babies...but all other sections we allow people to visit and many of the females that don't have babies are running around the house. We encourage this because we want our perspective buyers to be comfortable with us and to see the older bengals and make sure that this breed is the right breed for them.

Hope this helps!!

My first cat was an only cat and was about 10 yrs old when we got a Russian Blue kitten. He "mothered" that kitten too (4 months old).

Anyway I'd be a little cautious on adding a companion with a 17 yr old cat. You'd have to see all the kittens and pick one that is on the mellow side - not real active and racing/jumping around. That might be harder for your older cat to accept.

Now if the older one had been used to a multi-cat household it would be different, but it sounds like he's not been around too many at once.

I would make arrangements for a "trial" test period in whatever kitten you want to bring in. Maybe the breeder will let you have a kitten for 2 weeks and see what happens. But if you are saying it took 6 months to adjust to your other cat, it may not be a wise idea to adopt a companion right now.

Thank you for the insights...

The buddy will have to be tolderated by Kandie the 17 yr old ... but it is for Zoey my bengal cross who is about 19 months... Kandie likes Zoey wouldnt say love ... but they eat and sometimes sleep together but Kandie just cant keep up with an active adolenscent and deserves some peace

I'm not a breeder, but I had a 18 (at the time) cat, when I bought my Bengal, Simba. I bought Simba as a kitten, and because of that, he was no threat to my senior. Snoopy (who passed on earlier this year at 20) got along great with Simba, pretty much from the beginning.

The thing I was MOST worried about, was that because Bengal's are known to be such high energy cats, that he would torment my old boy, by trying to play hard with him. Simba must have sensed Snoopy's age, because he never once pounced on him to tried to play rough with him. On the other hand, he went after my 6 year (at the time) cat Shane, without mercy, and actually still does, although Simba seems to have found a better and more appropriate playmate in my new young cat SunLee.

In short, I don't think it would have worked out as smoothly, had I brought a more mature Bengal into my home. I would go with a kitten, if I were you, because an older cat might fight for Alpha over your aging cat.
