The TCS demographic poll got me to thinking and remembering about how when I was a teenager I would ask my Dad why he listened to that "OLD CRAP"
which was really stuff from about 1940 to 1960 or so and was mostly Big Band and Jazz that he grew up listening to & I thought it was really old junk.
Well it made me realize that most of the "Modern Music" I listen too not counting all the Classical I love is from about 1965 to 1980-85 and I realized that I am just like my Dad cause I listen to that "OLD CRAP" I grew up with.

What about you folks?

From what I can tell, everybody's favorite music is going to be the music that was popular when they were teenagers, just like their preferred hairstyle or clothing style.

I put 1970's and '80's because, you guessed it,
, that's when I was a teenager and young adult (20's). I also put "other" since I also listen to a huge amount of Celtic and classical which is of course, timeless.

I am a child of the early 90's "grunge" movement.
Most of my faves were born out of the flannel, combat boots, and baggy ripped jeans of rebellion against over-done 80's hair metal.
My little sister shocked me a few months ago when she called my music old!! Of course, she IS 13....

I was given an old grafonola, which is a wind up record player. I had it restored and now my hobby is collecting old '78's to play on this machine.

I listen to a lot of late 60's/early 70's rock, probably because I was raised on the stuff. The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, CSNY, The Band, The Guess Who and all the other good stuff.

Also, from beginning to end of the decade, I still listen to a lot of 80's stuff... anything alternative from new wave to mod revival to goth to Madchester and shoegazer, I like that stuff as well.

For other, I would say that I love traditional/authentic klezmer. I tried picking up a few klezmer CD's when I was in Brooklyn from a Yiddish music store, but no real luck.
Mind you, I like a lot of klezmer/Yiddish records Knitting Factory puts out.

I also like *some* of the newer alternative bands and Britpop from the 90's. Oasis are one of my all time faves.

I will listen to anything except rap, hip hop, the trash they call R&B these days. I really like punk, rockabilly, alternative country.
