It's official! I start my new job in Greenwood Village, CO on Monday 10/17. We are going to rent a house in Louisville, CO, and the landlords know about and are cool with our herd o'cats!

We're leaving here sometime between 10/10 and 10/12 to drive across the country with 38 cats.
Should be interesting. I expect to be deaf by the time we hit Ohio, especially if I'm the one who has Buffy in my vehicle! I swear, for a sweet, meek little girl, she turns into a banshee in the car!

We're planning on overnighting in the St Louis MO area halfway. Anyone in that area?

We are soooo psyched! Can't wait to get in and get settled, and start being HAPPY again!

That is great!!!!
We need more people who understand cats and don't freak out by the number you own! If they are taken care of there should never be a problem!!!

It helped that the local SPCA manager/animal control officer, who we've known and volunteered with for the past 3 years or so, wrote a letter of recommendation for us. He'd been to our place several times and knew a) we weren't hoarders b) the cats were loved and healthy and c) the place wasn't a pit.
I actually had about 6 places lined up with landlords willing to rent to us. Some asked for an extra deposit, one asked for a clause that we'd replace any damaged carpet, but all in all they were very cool about it.
By the way, I had posted a "housing wanted" ad on Craigslist with the specifics about our kitties on it, that was how I found the place we're moving to. I can't recommend that site highly enough!

How far away would that be from Louisville? I know Heidi (Valanhb) is in Lakewood too...

Hmm, I'm not quite sure. GJ is towards the center of the western slope, if that is of any help.

I'm in Boulder, colorado, at least for the time being. Bout 20 minutes from louisville.
I'm so glad you found a place out here. people are great, i've yet to live anywhere that had genuinely nicer people than the boulder area. i think you'll love it! and pets are a necessity here it seems.

I saw that in your profile the other day, and I was so happy to see that it worked out for you to move here!
Here's to a new start, Sue! Just be sure to plan enough time to get from Louisville to Greenwood Village. That's a rough drive during rush hour many days...

BTW, Grand Junction is about 5 hours from the Metro Area.

Well, we have another prospective house. This one is in Denver literally one block from Lakewood (Hi Heidi LOL!). Bigger, nicer, a little more money but worth it. Waiting to hear the final word on it. The owners know about our kitties and actually turned down other offers because they wanted to rent to us and our horde!

We found a place even better than the one in Louisville! This one is all settled, we've sent in half the security deposit and it's a done deal. Tomorrow, we hire the moving truck.

We'll be living in the mountains 20 minutes outside of Boulder. We will be living on 18 acres right on the Continental Divide! It's about a 45 minute commute to Denver. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, gas heat, a woodburning fireplace and a washer/dryer; the house is about 1600 square feet.

The landlord tells us that he regularly sees Bald Eagles and Golden Eagles there. Other wildlife in the area are black bear, lynx, cougar, bobcat, coyote, mule and whitetail deer, moose, about a dozen different species of hawk and at least 6 of owl. Our driveway is a mile long off the main road, and there's an existing snowplow contract, and there is a satellite dish on the house pre-wired for satellite TV and a T1 internet connection! Our nearest neighbors are over a mile away!

We are beyond ecstatic about this and it does seem like we have transformed a tragedy into something approaching our dreams come true. Our new landlord knows about the cats and has no problems with them, and in fact did not want an additional pet deposit! I'll post a picture of the view from the deck that he sent us...

Incredible news!, I've been to Colorado and it was breathtaking, you are so lucky to be able to live there!. I wish you all the best of luck with the move. That's alot of work moving yourself and all cats across the country!

Thrilled and terrified at the same time, this is the biggest move I've ever made. It is all coming together though, now that the last 2 weeks are upon us. I swear, I am going to write a book about all we've been through in the last few years.

I figure we'll be deaf by the time we reach Ohio. We're each driving a SUV with 20 cats in the back (in carriers). Basically, we are shipping everything except our computers (coming on the floor or the cars) and the essentials for the first few days (on the road and first few days there).

We're gonna be at 8000 feet. You may have the sand and shrubs, but we're gonna have some monster snow!

Welcome to Colorado. I'm sure you will love being out here. We can always use more kitties. Sounds like we were almost neighbors in Louisville, but the view from your pictures are great.

Have a safe and sane trip.
