PB (5 months old now) has this horrendous habit of swallowing strings and skinny threads and such-- i caught him with my sons shoelaces and thinking he had most of the shoelace underneath his body, pulled it. I ended up pulling 3/4 of the shoelace out of his MOUTH. We have to put up all our shoes with laces, my daughters hair ribbons, and cut threads and ribbons off toys and such. He even tried to swallow his collar once. Kitty wand toys have to be in a locked closet on a shelf up high or he will get them and eat them.

Is this normal? is there anything i can do about this other that what im doing now?

What i always say is to look around your home and think about what children could get hold of, or put in their mouths etc.... because really it's the same with cats and kittens

My cat Holly has had some near death experiences after swallowing strong and what not, you need to be so careful you put everything like this out of kitties reach, or next time it could be fatal

Be v. careful with dental floss too (used).
Anything to throw out that is stringy - put in heavy lidded trash can.

All of the above, good advice. Cats are little kids, hide it all from them.

Vigilance is really all you can do. To our list at home we also have curling ribbon and any kind of plastic wrapper.

Ditto the plastic bags. Our two are very fond of twist ties with the metal wire in them. I have to ensure there are none lying around. I don't know if they just play with them or if they would swallow some, but it's best to be safe than sorry.
