Sounds about right. Before it was formed the capital of the north west territories was more then 2500 kilometres from the Inuit communities they governed. So the territory was divided to allow the communities living in that area to govern themselves and look out for their own interests.

There are probably onle 40-60,000 people living up there, but it is beautiful wild country with amazing natural resources!

(sorry...biogeek here!! LOL)

It is most definitely NOT a province. We have 10 provinces - and three territories, all of which are in the north. It is the newest territry, carved out of a part of the North West Territories. (The other territory is Yukon). They do have a government and legislature but are not recognized as a province under Canada's bicameral parliamentary system. The url provided above should provide you with more info. It is cold but actually I am told the summers are quite warm.

Oops...sorry bout that. My hubby hasn't lived in Canada for quite a while now, so he says...sorry guys...my bad!

I've never been there, but I borther went with the Army and he took some nice pictures. It looks like a very beautiful part of Canada.
