My female cat, Kali has a problem with runny eyes. It looks as if her eyes are filling up with tears, like if you are going to start crying. We have taken her to the vet about this twice. The first time, they put orange drops in her eyes to make sure there was no surface damage etc. That was fine. The vet said the orange stuff should come out of her nose and that would make sure that her tear ducts were ok.

So we took her home - this orange stuff didn't come down through her nose, so we took her back to the vet and she was no help at all.
She said her tear ducts must be blocked but didn't give us anything to help it or suggest any form of treatment. She basically implied that it was just one of thse things and Kali would have to live with it.

Her eyes don't run constantly, but it is pretty frequent. There is no sign of any irritation in her eye, but all the same, it must be pretty annoying for her.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it something that Kali will just have to live with or can something be done. I find it hard to believe that they can't do anything about it.

Thanx.

Something you can do for blocked tear ducts! In HORSES (now I'm not saying they do the same in katz), they stick a tiny hose up the little vent in their nose (if u look real hard in a horses nose, there is a tiny little hole), and flush it with sterilized water - one of my friends mare's had blocked tear ducts and she would tear up frequently as well. It was kinda funny to see the water come squirting outa her eyes though!

I would call another vet!

Thanx. I am going to take her to a different vet. I can't believe they are just going to leave her to put up with it. It's not fair.

vet that left you hanging like that. Definitely go see someone else! I am very lucky - I've had the same vet for 20 years and they are like family to me. Hope you find a good one! I'm sure there is something they can do....
