after 8 hours of work i went to a shelter with one of the vets from work as well as another tech and the manager all went over to a shelter that was bringing up 20 pets from New Orleans/ the Gulf Coast.

there were 20 dogs and one kitten. the vet did his exam while my fellow tech and i tested the dogs for blood born disease like heartworm and lymes disease, and gave the vaccines. the dogs were then handed over to the groomer where they were bathed and flea preventive put on. all seemed to be in general good health. but 7 were positive for heartworm. one dog has an infected eye that may need removed and another seems to be alittle aggresssive, but the dogs had been in travel kennels for 22 hours (the driver had to take it slower then normal)

after 10 days the dogs will but in foster homes with teh understanding that if thier owners are found the pets will go back to them.

since i am unable to go down to the gulf to help, this evening was a satisfying evening of work.

I am glad that you are able to help out! I find it distressing that the percentage of cats rescued is so low, though! I guess that many factors contributed; poor kitties!
I salute you and all the animal rescuers everywhere who give so selflessly!
