I was just wondering if you can train a cat the same way you can a dog- like sit, lay down, speak etc. And if so how????? Oh yeah and to come to you lol

Cats are not dogs, and although clicker training is popular with some cat owners, personally I celebrate the individual spirit of each cat and their individuality. Mine come when called, or when they hear the can opener start up-

Unfortunately you can rarely `make' a cat do anything!!! Just use it her name all the time - when feeding, calling, playing - if you can get her to even look at you when you say her name initially, that is a good start. Clicker training is great for that, too. It's how I taught my girls, anyway.

and don't call your cat to you to do anything she might consider unpleasant - medication, bathing, etc. If you need to medicate her, go & get her. That way she'll continue to associate hearing her name with good things, and come running when you call.

There's no place like home
My husband taught our (OTB) alpha cat Max to sit. He liked cheese, and when my husband would break apart a piece to give to the dogs, they all sat, so Max figured out how to sit from watching the dogs. He knew the command, but rarely chose to do it unless you tempted him with a treat.

It's hard to find the right incentives to train a cat to do "tricks". But I have trained mine to use a cat tree, stay off certain pieces of furniture, and other good behavior stuff.

I taught my kitty I had when I was a kid to sit. I just kept repeating "Scooter, sit!" and then I'd give him a treat each time he sat after I told him to sit. Pretty soon, he connected the yummy treat with his posterior on the floor! LOL! It was pretty funny. I also trained him to climb on my top bunk bed by putting a treat on each rung of the ladder and saying "Scooter up!" Soon, he connected that with my bed, and he'd just scramble up to join me.
sigh...I miss him!

You just had to say "chicken" to one of my little girls and she would come running from wherever she was and would meow until you came up with the goods!!
