Hi, I just adopted a 3 month old kitten from a rescue organization and had a few questions. I had a kitten that I raised since 7 weeks of age, but lost her when someone broke into the house. Now that I brought home my new adopted kitten I am noticing many differences. Kaley is far less eager to be held and runs away at any loud noises, or guests. Is it too late to expect her to be social, or comfortable around people. She does lay with me and licks my face
but I'm afraid she well always be skiddish.... Help

She is just nervous in her new home! She will warm up, it will just take a little time!

Often kittens are easily overwhelmed & do much better confined to one room till they get used to the idea that you are safe to be with, and that the home is safe. Be sure that she has a safe place to hide, under the bed or in her cat carrier; let her get used to the sounds of the house & the smells of the home before she actually explores. I have 2 kittens about 3mos. old that arrived when I was in TN last week. My hubby let them have free rein, and they would basically hide; the only evidence of them was the occasional meowing. When they finally did come out, I caught them & put them in the bathroom for a few days, visiting them frequently. They were so skittish!! ON day 3, I left the door open a crack so they could get used to the sounds & smells of the house. On day 5, I left the door open & they would come out, and dash back to the bathroom when they got startled. It's day 7 today, and they're dashing about like crazy; you'd think they'd been born here! JC loves the fact that they are so amusing to watch and don't need batteries; Joey thinks he's scared of them.

thank you so much for the advice. the first couple of nights I left her in my room with the doors closed b/c I was going in and out.... I think that helped but now she comes to me and not my roommate....let alone a stranger... I'll see how it develops

Took two years for me to win Anya over. Have patience and let the cat dictate the rules of engagement

Only one day more and she is already being more affectionate. I am so excited! She spends a lot of time under the couch, but watched me get ready for work this morning without running at the slightest sound....progress is nice!

Allright!
Maybe it's time for the roommate to offer a bribe - some tuna, perhaps?
