I'm not sure how to handle this weekend... We will be gone from friday around supper until late sunday afternoon.

My two cats will be kept upstairs
Chanel and her kitten (foster) will be kept downstairs
A neighboor will come feed them once on Saturday morning and again Saturday night.

So far, so good !

My problem is Kiera (pregnant foster)... I don't know where to put her ! When I am at home, she is alowed out in the basement "with supervision" as she hisses and smacks the other cats (except the kittens - she loves them !). When I am away, she gets confined to "her room". I hate to confine her to "her room" with little or no company for 48 hours (I'm sure the neighboors would feed her but she's not very playfull at 9 weeks prego so she won't get much affection). What do you think about me bringing a very pregnant cat on a 2 hour drive for the weekend ? I'm staying at my parents so she'll have company, room, affection or peace and quiet as she prefers, it's just the driving part I'm not sure about...

I have no neighboors that would "babysit" as they either have allergies or dogs...

Or any other suggestions ?
Julie

Very bad idea. She is better off alone in a safe place with a 'nest' she recognizes for 48 hours than travelling when she is so close to labor. It's just too stressful and risky for her, IMHO.

I am not sure I would leave her alone that long so late in her pregnancy, but if you absolutely must...I would have plenty of food and water at her disposal and make sure she is confined to one room, having your neighbor check on her as often as possible.

I know - Really bad timing ! My Dad's big 60th birthday party - that I organized ! - is this Saturday. It's a 2 hour drive and my daughter hasn't seen Gramma and Grampa since she started school so we are staying the weekend.

Won't she freak being left alone all that time ? I was hoping she'd have them by today so that she'd be fine "locked up" with her kittens but it doesn't look like it's gonna happen that way...

Definitely don't bring her on the trip. It will stress her and could cause problems with the kittens.

She'll be fine isolated in a room with a nest, a litterbox, and plenty of food and water. Just make sure to familiarize your neighbor with what to expect with a cat birth and also make sure s/he knows the phone number and directions to the nearest emergency vet hospital in case there is a problem. And of course s/he should have a number where you can be reached in an emergency.

Realistically, things will almost certainly be just fine.

LOL, it's like Murphy's law...

Honestly, she is more likely to 'freak' by being moved to a strange area with unfamiliar scents and sounds (that may seem dangerous to her, even though you know they aren't). I think that could cause more problems than it's worth.

I agree with everything semiferal suggested...I think she will be fine. Go and enjoy your weekend and maybe you will come back to new kittens...

good luck to you, keep us updated!

I've got all my fingers and toes crossed that she has them BEFORE we go... I may even delay the departure to Saturday morning if there's any indication that she might have them friday night. I'd feel soooo guilty if I returned to find any of the kittens had died. Even though my head tells me there's a good chance I couldn't have done anything to help (like if they were stillborn) I'll feel as though "if only I had been there, I could have <insert heroic life saving action here>..."

Guess I'll leave her here...
Hope she waits !
