Ugh, now I'm hearing that Rita's turned east and is heading straight up to East Texas. Rita, stop following my path home! Is it safer to stay now or leave?! Its likely to be TS Rita when it hits College Station....
I'll be praying for you! Good luck riding out the storm! Its not so bad in CS yet, there's still places with gas and I can take a somewhat backroads way to get home so hopefully not too much traffic.Originally Posted by caprice
WE can't leave!!! We tried last night. I leave in central Houston. If you haven't left yet. Don't go! There isn't gas anywhere.
Please be safe!!!Originally Posted by Sandtigress

Thanks for the storm prep advice!
Good luck--but I would highly recommend you staying. It will take you all day or even longer to get where you are going. We didn't take any main roads to where we were trying to get and we got stuck for hours. Does your bathroom have windows? If not, stay in there or your hallway until you feel safe it is ok to come out.Originally Posted by Sandtigress

Ok, you need to really prepare now for safety. Board up all of your windows with plywood. If you can't, put masking tape on them to keep glass from flying if they break. Arrange any human necessities and cat supplies in the safest place in your house, like the bathroom, preferably one without a window. Put your kitties in there and keep a mattress within reach so that you can use it as shelter from flying objects. Fill the tub with water for washing. Keep plenty of bottled water on hand for drinking. Eat the stuff in the fridge and freezer before the storm, saving the non-perishables for later. Get ice. Stock up on flashlights and batteries. Make sure you have a battery operated radio. Everyone you know who is staying should have the same person to contact who is out of the area. That way, if you lose touch with each other, the one contact person can relay messages.Originally Posted by caprice

You probably know all these things, but I want you to stay safe!
My prayers are with you!

Good! A few hours before its predicted to hit, make as much coffee as you can and put it in thermoses. You will really enjoy having it once the power goes out!Originally Posted by caprice

When is the storm expected to hit? If there is any way you can get gas or transportation out of Houston in time before the storm hits, I would investigate those options. It's supposed to be a doozy of a storm and I just don't think it's safe to stay there if you can, in any way, get out.Originally Posted by Rockcat

It is suppose to start raining first thing in the morning. I am already feeling the winds pick up when I take Watson out for his walks today. I plan to take him for a wonderful run this evening, because it may be awhile until he can go out for awhile. The storm will make landfall about 1am on Saturday. Not sure if you've been following this thread.Originally Posted by SnowLeop

I'll be praying for you and your family.
