I took Chloe into the vet last week because she has had diarrhea since the beginning of august when we first moved to Okla. I figured for the first couple of weeks that is was just stress from the move. Although she has appeared to be handling it better than any of the other animals.

When the vet examined her feces, the didnt find anything but an overgrowth of bacteria and gave me meds to give her two times a day for five days. And to call after a week and let them know if it is not any better. Well, Chloe is not any better and now Sara has diarrhea too. And it is not just once or twice a day. Both of them go 3, 4 and sometimes 5 times a day. It is very loose and very pale. They still eat and drink normally and are still active. There hasnt been any change in food or treats.

I just got off the phone will them and they are going to call me back in a bit.

I was wondering though, does anyone have any idea what could be causing this.

What are you feeding them? My two had diarrhea for a while and I found that boiled chicken did wonders (the cause for my two was worms).

Are they dehydrated? Check by pinching the skin on their neck, if it doesn't snap back into place quickly then they could be in serious trouble.

Dont know what the vet will say, they have an appointment at 3pm today. They eat Purina Indoor Cat chow, which I know isnt the best. They both ate Nutro once upon a time, but I dont have access to any money right now, so I can afford it, so they eat what my parents provide. They are not dehydrated, i checked the skin. Besides Chloe will sit and drink water for ever, after she plays in it. Hopefully the vet will figure something out.
Whenever we give them canned pumpkin or baby chicken food, or boiled chicken, it does help for a little while, but then after it wears off it is right back to diarrhea.

I'm certainly no expert, but I think I'd really try changing to a different food since it seems to clear up after feeding the pumpkin and chicken only to return when you stop.

Hope the vet can diagnose and help you with your kitties.

Java had this problem, too. she had the overgrowth, took the meds, overgrowth was gone, but diarrhea still present! i got her some beneficial bacteria at Petco, came in a packet w/4 tubes. 2 tubes are the dose, givien 3 days apart. that did the trick!
if you're looking for a good, inexpensive food, try looking for the chicken soup brand. here, it's only carried in feed stores, not pet stores, & it's only about twice what the supermarket stuff is... i.e., $20 for 18 pounds, versus $10 for 18 pounds. of course, my girls actually prefer the cheap stuff, but too bad!

yea, i am definetly thinking about changing their food, they never had any problems when they were eating GOOD stuff. I will be at the vets in a little while, then I will let you know what they said.
I will go to petco or petsmart(do they have the beneficial bacteria there?) tonight and get some!

they show it online here - i got mine at petco, but, in my experience, petsmart has more stuff...maybe it's just because here petsmart is a bigger store than petco.

I took Chloe back to the vet and they did 2 more fecal smears and Giardia test. Giardia was negative and they are still not seeing anything bad on the smears.
But they are going to go ahead and put both cats on a different antibiotic for 2 weeks, and we are re-deworming both of them.
Hopefully this will work.
Chloe got weighed again yesterday and she had gained 13 OZ!!!! Her belly is really big too.
Hopefully all the new meds and de-worming will clear it up.
