when my cat was very ill [for about 5 days] he could barely move and he constantly urinated himself.
He's feeling better now and he's going outside to pee, but he's still not grooming himself.
I live in chile and pet wipes don't exist over here.
are baby wipes safe? I don't want to give him a bath right now because he's still rather weak and its to stressful, I'ld rather leave him alone.
But he smells really bad.. so I thought cleaning him with baby wipes might help...
if you think its not safe, any other suggestions? I would like to clean him in the least stressful way possible.
he's 15 and male.. I don't know if thats important..

I use baby wipes all the time, but I get all-natural ones also.

Abbey used to be too fat to clean her own tush well (ewww..) Baby wipes worked really well - although I am really happy that she has lost enough weight to reach now!

I'm also going to try the baby wipes. I already tried just warm water like someone suggested. It worked for getting clean, but didn't seem to help with smell! So good luck, and hope it works for me too!

I use baby water wipes on my cat. They're safe, 99.9% water

I have been worrying about this. Although Jack the Cat is a one cat house, and a 100% inside cat, I think that cleaning his paws after a trip to the cat box might be best. However, a cat's sense of smell is so intense that I am concerned about the trauma of his own feet smelling of Baby Wipes (which smell both strong and awful).

Anyone thought about this?

You shouldn't need to clean his feet, and I would be very careful about doing anything that makes going to the litter box traumatic.

Well, Jack the Cat has the run of the house. He is pretty much walking on every surface, except maybe inside the sink bowls and the laundry machines. So, whatever is on his feet is on everything and every one.

Standard protocol is to wash your surfaces like counters before preparing food. Wiping his feet won't accomplish much. He licks his feet to clean them, which puts bacteria on them too. Just make sure you wash your hands and surface areas and you will be fine.

Uh, OK. It hasn't been a problem so far. But, just for the record, Jack the Cat is wandering everywhere in a 12 room 5000+ sq. ft. house with 4.5 baths with three separate areas where food is served. He sleeps on pillows, clothes, furniture, etc. So wiping down the areas he has visited isn't going to happen. He is pretty active. So, following him around is not really an option.

It's not about following him around. It's about wiping off surfaces before you prepare food on them and washing hands before you eat. There is no way to sanitize this situation fully, but you are right that it is rarely an issue. Follow normal food safety protocol and you will be fine!

I use a cloth soaked in warm (not hot) water once or twice a week and hold it on Speedy's bottom to loosen up anything stuck there.  I do not rub, but just hold the cloth there for as long as she will let me.  This works well, but be careful, sometimes it will bring out anal gland secretions which smell bad if they get on you.  I like the idea of plain water, as I don't know how she would like the scented wipes.
