How often do you scoop your litterboxes?

OK - I'll never complain about scooping 2 boxes once per day and sometimes twice.

Do you ever have time to get anything else done after caring for your precious babies? My hat is doffed to you breeder folks.

I use Litter Mate - an additive to control odors and bacteria added to regular clay litter. The Litter Mate causes the clay to clump very well, so it is really easy to scoop, and it keeps the smell next to nothing. You never really change out the entire pan with Litter Mate, but you must keep about 3-5 inches in the pan at all times. We scoop daily, and rotate a clean box in anytime that someone misses the litter and hits the plastic. The dirty boxes are bleached then sun dried before rotating them back into the mix. The box is thrown out if it gets overly scratched.

I guess I'm lucky, I've never had an angry cat or kitten, or a sick one from litterboxes for that matter. Except when I was using scented litter in the beginning, about 10 years ago. My cats hated it! I'm not saying I never empty and clean the whole boxes, just saying I don't do it as often as some and I've (they've) never had a problem.

Scoop at least once a day. Every 2 to 3 weeks for all new litter. =) This thread reminds me it's time to wash the boxes out this weekend.

After you wash and dry your litter pans, take some PAM cooking spray and coat the inside of the litter pan- then let dry for just a few seconds and dump fresh litter on top. Next time you go to scoop the waste slides right out- a better alternative than litter pan liners that get caught in kitty claws.

Thanks for that Mary Anne - I didn't think it was healthy to leave litter like that!

I'd be stressed if I left the same litter in there for a WEEK!

As for scooping, I scoop daily

Good point MA - I've been doing that now for several years and it's "magic".

But not nearly as much fun! Seriously, Jamie enjoys "digging up" the liner, and had a fit the few times I dispensed with it.

I use the clumping litter. With three cats using this box, I scoop 2 to three times a day. When it starts to get low, I add a bunch. I wipe off "accidents" as they occur.

Wow, 2-3 times daily? Jeez, I feel like a slacker. My girls have never once gone outside the box though so I'm guessing they don't really have an issue.

I scoop every 3-4 days and do a whole litter change every month or two. Although once when I was on vacation, my petsitter sucked so the box went an entire three weeks without being scooped once. Kitties still went in it though. I did feel really bad about that.

I have one litterbox for my two. I scoop twice a day. Once a week, I change the litter and wash the box with hot water and mild detergent. I just think about how I want my toilet and think it is only fair to make sure they are treated the same!!

I scoop once a day and change out the litter weekly. Pretty much as soon as the pellets break down completely to sawdust (I use Feline Pine), I know it's time to throw it out. Otherwise, I have sawdust tracked everywhere.

As for scrubbing and washing, er....not nearly often enough. Maybe every month or two? I guess I should do it more often. The litter is pretty good about breaking down urine; the box never ever gets that awful ammonia smell.

I only scoop once a day. I CURRENTLY have 3 boxes and 3 cats, but there's another box waiting in the wings if need be. I would like to keep it down to 3 boxes once a day, it seems to work well.

I scrub the boxes out every 2 weeks and add new unscented clumping clay litter (we're using the PetSmart Exquisicat brand these days because you really can't beat 40 pounds for 10 bucks and it's one of the few unscented ones I've seen. My cats refuse anything but clay)

The automatic litter box I only scoop every couple of days, but since it does the "scooping" for me, i dont need to scoop daily. The second, non automatic pan, I scoop daily. I do a complete change every couple of weeks in the automatic box, and weekly with the non auto box.
