Hi all,

I just got a new kitty from the humane society (had him for a week) and he's developed a severe URI. My older kitty (who is the love of my life) has had his FVCRP vaccines, but has started sneezing so I think he's caught it. I feel like a horrible person for exposing my super healthy cat to this lifelong virus. The sick kitty has been on antibiotics, antihistamines, and both cats are taking lysine. The sick kitty's symptoms are so bad (sneezing, discharge, bloody nose, vomiting) and I don't think I can bear seeing my older cat with those symptoms. My vet says his vaccines should keep his symptoms mild, not severe, but I'm still worried. I put them both in the bathroom with hot water on to help congestion. Is there anything else I can do for my older kitty that will keep his symptoms mild?

If possible give them seperate food and water bowls in seperate areas of the house. Cats think nothing of sneezing into their food and water. The best thing would be to seperate them completely if that's an option. It will limit the amount of virus your older cat is subjected to, since your kitten is shedding the virus like mad in his secretions.
Good luck with this, I hope your kitten gets well soon and your older cat stays healthy!
