I don't know that rice counts ...
I cannot COUNT the number of times that I've walked off and "forgotten" the rice (even though it's on a timer.) *sigh* And it's really a b***h to clean off after it's been cooked onto a pan also.

Ah ladies, a nice Chinese friend of my first husband taught me how to cook rice that is perfect every time!

Use 2 to 1, i.e., 1 cup white long grain rice and 2 cups water (or any other equal measurement like 2 cups rice 4 cups water). I don't know what the ratio would be for other types of rice, i.e., wild rice, etc. Bring to a boil in a covered saucepan then turn the heat to low but do NOT remove the lid for even a second. Just leave it on the lowest setting for your burner and in 35-40 minutes you will have perfect rice.

My husband works for Panasonic and wanted to buy me a rice cooker but I really don't want one.

Ugh, another gadget to take up space in the kitchen, IMO. I cook rice the same way you do, and it works just fine!
