A good friend of mine just spent last night in the hospital, suffering from chest pains. It's really scaring me.

Apparently it's not a heart attack or heartburn. Might be angina.
He's only in his early 30s. I never imagined heart problems could develop so young.

I'm so worried about him. And he's hours away so I can't even see him.

I hope it's nothing too serious.

Could be anxiety...since he's so young, and it's not a heart attack, we'll hope that's all it is!!
An anxiety attack can seem like a heart attack...you can have chest pain, shortness of breath, wild heart beat, stuff like that. It'll scare the poopie out of you, but it's not going to do serious damage.
I hope that's all that's wrong with your friend!! I will send out some good vibes.
Keep us updated.

Thanks everyone!

I haven't heard back from him yet.

I'm not sure about anxiety. For as long as I've known him, he's never suffered from it. And apparently the doctors think there might have been something wrong with his ECG (I think that's electrocardiogram, or something like that). I'll try my best not to worry until we know for sure.

He is young to have problems. But isn't it lucky that they are finding this before something worse happens.

My brother went to the hospital with chest pains when he was in his late 20's. He had pulled the "intercostal" muscles, between his ribs, all across his rib cage, while he was practicing archery. They took him very seriously, and ran all sorts of tests. It could be any of a number of things.

Hopefully its nothing serious!! But often with a panic attack, especially your first, you don't sense anything as being wrong..Its a manifestation of inner turmoil. I was taken to the hospital with my first one at 13 (with all the symptoms of a heart attack)...But he is a bit old and of a less likely gender to be affected by Panic/Anxiety..Hope it all goes well!

well, apparently it is angina. Not too good. It means he's at higher risk of heart attack.

He's on medication now and has to start taking better care of himself. Doesn't seem like he's in any immediate danger but it's still scary.

That's true. It seems like he's had it for years (but he thought it was acid reflux). At least now he's getting treatment and hopefully he'll start taking better care of himself.
(if he doesn't I'll make sure his girlfriend gives him hell. He might not listen to me but I know he'll listen to her
)
