My sweet little "Meep" is 8 weeks, and the fleas are having a field day with her... so far I have bathed her twice with Dawn.... but she keeps getting them... This is THE worst year we have ever had with fleas... I have had 3 dogs, and in the last 4 years NO fleas at all... this year it is a nightmare! I am going to find some borax and do my yard and my carpets and furniture. I have had it! Still wondering why God created Fleas... Do they actually benefit anything? I don't think the birds feed off them of any other creature needs them to survive...

I think emb_78 means to use Advantage on your cat not on your carpets and yard.

Make sure you get the correct dosage from your vet for the weight of your cat.

I'm not sure I understand you question. Is there a difference between the two what? Borax and Advantage?

Our cats get a monthly treatment of Advantage (that's what our vet uses). There are other folks who use other treatments.

I suggest you take her to the vet and get the correct dosage for the size of your cat. You will also have to treat your house. Do not use flea collars on your kitten as they are dangerous to them.

You can cut up a flea collar and put it in your vacuum but be sure to empty it after each vacuuming.

I believe Frontline and Advantage are both 8 weeks.

Frontline treats both fleas and ticks while Advantage only does fleas. If your kitties are indoors only or have a low risk of ticks I would suggest using Advantage as it seems to work better on fleas.

For Frontline there is one dosing size for cats. FOr Advantage there are two, under 9 pounds or 9 pounds and over.

Also there is a pill called capstar. Once given it starts working within 20-30 minutes and kills all the live fleas on the animal for 24 hours. You could give one of those for some temporary relief.

Supposedly, if you use a flea treatment like Advantage or Frontline continuously for atleast 3 or 4 months the fleas will clear up on their own. I guess it would depend on how bad they are at your house. Just make sure you put whichever flea product you choose on every 4 weeks, wash all pet bedding, small rugs, etc in hot water, vacuum regularly, etc.

Also, be sure to get the flea meds from a vet. I have seen quite a few toxic reactions to OTC flea medications lately.
