I set Kitty outside on the porch yesterday, which is the first time she's been outside unfettered, and all she did was lick the concrete ground. There is nothing unusual on the concrete. She licked the sidewalk, too. How come? Is there something in concrete that cats like to taste?

I honestly have never heard of that... Do you have kids??? Maybe something was spilt... Hopefully nothing dangerous!

Licking the cement isn't normal for cats. I would have your kitty checked by a vet. It can be a sign of anemia.

It generally is a sign of anemia or a deficiency- time to go to the vet and have blood work done-

My friends cat licked cement because of severe liver problems, so, it could be serious. On the other hand, my Milla apparently just loves the taste of our walls, she has been cheked by a vet because the habit and was just fine. I worry about possible toxins in the paint though, so I try to prevent it by wiping the walls with lemon juice.

Edit: Started wondering, if I remembered right, could have been kidney problem, not liver. Serious anyway.

Sashka started obsessively eating polystyrene a couple of months back (no, I didn't let her I stopped her as soon as I found out!). When I took her to the vet it was because she had a dietary deficiency. I changed her diet and she stopped right away. What do you feed your baby?
