Hello, All~

Been away for a while. Between work, home and the two boys that turned one in July and August, I've been going a bit crazy. But I'm back and hopefully I will be able to log in more often.

The good news are that as of today I became the mommy of a female one-week old kitty. She's black, brown and beige and tiny. Her name is Matilde and my mother-in-law is taking care of her tonight, as we have to work. Tomorrow morning, she'll be home with her two big brothers. Montgomery and Maximo have been smelling my clothes and the reaction seems to be positive. I just have to wait till tomorrow to see how things go, and of course the whole week!

I'll be around with questions and worries! In the meantime I'm catching up at the forum section!!!!

Hugs,

Lorelei

P.S. Will be posting photos soon!

Lorelei....I'm assuming given her young age that she was abandoned? Also...I would make sure she is vet checked before she is introduced to your existing cats.

Katie, thanks for the advice. I already contacted a friend vet. I actually think that Matilde is a special need kitten. Her right eye is still closed, the other one is wide open. Her right front leg is not as strong as the other legs. She was abandoned and we don't know how this happened. I read that some mommies do not have the capability of producing milk. It is a condition and I forgot the name of it!

The big cats have been smelling Matilde's carrier and are very curious to meet her. They have been as close as two feet distance from her. So they already know she exists and I cannot hide her too much, as I'm afraid it could be counter-productive in their behaviour. What do you think?

Update for 20-Sept-2005: Matilde is drinking about two full teaspoons of formula every two hous. Last night, she didn't sleep that much, as she was in a playful mode. She discovered my down pillows and actually push me out and got comfortable in one of them - so cute! The big brothers are ok and have approached her more!!

A friend of mine told me that she must have been abandoned by her own mommy, due to the fact that her right leg is weak. he says that mommies do that when they know kitties have "deffects". Her right eye is still closed. My friend thinks it's nothing neurological. My friend vet has not been able to see Matilde, as we are going through Hurricane Rita and the authorities asked everyone to stay home. Hopefully after the hurricane is over (tomorrow), I will be able to have the vet see Matilde.

People that have seen her, give me the sad look, like she's not going to make it, but I have faith that this little one is a warrior and will give us many years of love and happiness.

One of my foster kittens sounds a little like your Matilda, and after a few weeks of food he is looking so much better! I hope it goes the same for your little one. Good luck! Keep us updated!

26-September-2005: Matilde is doing wonderful. Her eyes are fully opened and she's eating a lot! She weighs 10 ounces and is having around 5 ounces of formula daily. Things are getting easier at feeding time. She's healthy and is going to make it! Montgomery & Maximo love her. Yesterday I was in my bedroom and both of them came in meowing like crazy, they will come in and out of the bedroom. When I went to the den, Matilde was meowing. I guess they were worried about her. I thought it was going to be a tough ride with the two big cats and the new baby, but they are behaving like big boys!!!!!!! I am very thankful I found this forum. Reading all your posts have helped me a big deal to understand the development of a such a small kitty. All the links have been useful and the information is just amazing. Thanks to all!
