Thought I would start my own post for more answers,

I have had my cat for nearly a year & a half, and since she was a kitten she would scoff her food down her neck that fast it wouldnt have touched the sides, her mother was the same, she also has a sister that is the same, everytime I go into the kitchen she thinks it feeding time, and it is now causing problems in the house as I have other cats, oh I should have mentioned that she had a litter of 4 11 weeks ago, but even before she had the litter she was still the grubber, it has nothing to do with her being a stray because we've had her since week 6, we have to lock her into the utility room for feeding time because when she is finished she is on the lookout for more food, oh and by food I mean cakes toast anything she can get hold off, I have been searching the net for some sort of supplement to try to bag her up, but at the moment we have to make sure ALL food stuffs stay in cupboards, can anyone advise me what I can do,

thx scint...

In my opinion, besides all the obvious reasons, spaying really helps modify their behavior - that is, helps calm down and sometimes they do gain weight. We adopted a 14 year old cat that was just skeletal, and had just been spayed because she had just been taken into the shelter. She was a real chow hound, and they thought she had a thyroid problem. She's now (a year and a half later) and has gained several pounds. I think you should have her spayed and also check for thyroid. (and tapeworms, as Yosemite suggested.)

she was just wormed 1 week after having her kittens, the I wormed her again last week, just to see if this is the problem, but as original post says, it is a past down trait from the mum, as my cats sister, and mother are the same, grubbing donw their food, also the vet doesnt think its a thyroid problem as shes been like this always, i.e since she was a kitten, and now 1 of her kittens are turning out to be the same as the mum, very greedy, sometimes I have fed her 3 large tins of cat food in 1 day, and I now that a cat only need 1 tin a day, but she will eat & eat, I am getting her spayed, but if that doesnt sort the problem, I dont now what to do, I am at my wits end with her and I dont wont to end up giving her away to the catery,
