Today for my Aging Services class visited a nursing home. I love the elderly, but I really don't like nursing homes. I did some volunteer work at this particular home for a short time a couple of years ago. I found that most of the residents were very unhappy and I dreaded working with them. Since I have left, the staff has incorporated cats and dog into the care of their residents. They have 6 cats and 2 dogs. It has been a very positive change. It is remarkable the difference in the attitudes of the people living there. It has been very theraputic and has made the place more of a home for these people. Some of the staff complains that they have too many cats, but the residents say that some of the staff would have to go before they would consider giving up their animals!!!

I think that's cool.
Sometimes friendly fur balls can get people to respond better than humans can.
If you would, please PM me with some info about therapy animals...I work with nursing home patients and staff, and this could be good for them to know about.
