Just got back my very first vacation as an adult. It was fun! My boyfriend and I had planned to go to Cape Hatteras, but Hurricane Ophelia put a stop to those plans.
*good vibes and happy thoughts for everyone in Ophelia's path*
So we went to Gatlinburg, TN instead. It's right on the edge of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park...very pretty. I had never been there, but my boyfriend went there a lot as a kid.
We got a really nice room with a balcony right on the Little Pigeon River, which resulted in much duck feeding. We got to see about half the sights and do half the things we wanted, which means of course that we will have to go back. hehe
We had a great time!!!
I will post pics of the sights if anyone is interested...the mountains are just gorgeous!!

It really was a good time, and I must say that the Smokies is a great vacation spot.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
Here are some pictures.

This was the view from the balcony of the hotel room.

Here are a few from the aquarium:

The Great Smokey Mountains

View from the top of Clingman's Dome...over 6,600 feet up, the highest point in the park

One final pic from the aquarium....
Well, it LOOKS like I was at the beach.... hehe

What great pics!
Looks like y'all had a blast! Sorry your original plans were derailed, but Gatlainburg's a great place, huh?

Glad you had a fun and safe trip!

Oh how fun! I live with the Rockies right next door, but I do love the Smokies. They are so beautiful!

I have to admit, though, I had to giggle at the "highest point in the park" at 6,600 feet.
We go camping every year in Leadville, CO (the highest incorporated city in the US) at ~11,000 feet, and we're not at the top of the peaks! LOL Such a difference in the mountain ranges!

LOL For real! I must see the Rockies someday...I am envious that you have them at your door step!!
I think that 6600+ peak is the highest east of the Mississippi. The Appalachians are a bit more weathered than the Rockies.

It was a blast...we only spent 3 nights, so we didn't get to do all we wanted, but I'm sure we'll go back. I think it was more fun than the beach.

Jenn-- hehe Thanks!
