For Halloween, when you were a young child, did you ever dress up for a party at school?

Yes
Those were some of my happiest school memories. We would all get dressed up and we would decorate the classroom!

Yup, every year. In elementary school, we got an extra long lunch to go home and change into our costumes. Then we'd have our class parties and then the school parade. If you were lucky and your parents were there, you got to leave school early!

Oh yeah. Back then, kids were allowed to wear their costumes to school, and you didn't get in trouble if you dressed up as an Indian, cowboy, nun, butcher, vampire, cat, anything...?

NOW; the kids are NOT allowed to wear any type of costume to school "at all". Why? Cuz if you dress up as an Indian, cowboy, nun, butcher, vampire, or a cat -- - you are RACIST! and it could hurt the other kids feelings!

blah

I can only remember doing that around 5th grade. Before that, we never did it and after that I wasn't interested in doing it.

I think that's so sad because it's denying kids one of the most fun aspects of school and childhood in general!

We dressed up every year in elementary school. Our teachers did as well! It was great

My daughter's school (elementary)... has them wear "Halloween themed shirts" but no costumes are allowed. It's freaking Kindergarten thru 5th grade, and they are ALREADY teaching about Racism.

I still dress up during the day, I'm the only one here in my office who comes to work fully costumed, but I have to. Our trick or treating starts at 6pm and I don't get home til start-time. I feel guilty cuz here mommy gets to wear HER costume all day long but my daughter has to wear a freaking orange shirt with a black cat on it.

I don't recall dressing up until high school. Might have in kindergarten but I think those memory cells have died.

When sis drove a school bus, she would dress up. One year she went in housecoat, curlers, and fuzzy slippers. Her kids were sooo embarrassed!

When I was in elementry (sp?) school all the kids would go home at lunch and get dressed up and back to school for an afternoon "Halloween Party". It was great! We get up on stage and tell the whole school what you were, then there'd be cookies, punch and games. It was sooooo much fun!!
Even in junior high and high school people would still dress up and go to school.

Yes, when I was very young the school would also have a Halloween parade. The parents would get to come and see all of the kids marching around outside in their costumes.

Yep, we dressed up and had a party in the afternoon. When we were in the younger grades we would go parade around to all the other classes. I loved Halloween as a child!
