I just received a notice from the electricity company confirming the information for my account at my new address.

So they have my address, phone number, email, etc. And at the end, under "Other information" it says "Your file indicates that you do not have a dog"

why would they have that on file??

Maybe to be on the safe side I should let them know that I have two cats, a rat and a fish but no dogs or emus

Probably concerned with meter readers encountering a dog. A lot of meter readers are bitten trying to do thier jobs. When I worked at the pizza place, we kept track of who had mean dogs, so the person taking the order could remind the person to put the dog away before the delivery guy got there. They had quite a few near-misses on getting bitten, too.

Yes it would be to make sure the meter readers are safe - the meter man came here the other day and my parents dog get upset, he doesnt like uniforms for some reason and the man would not come inside until the dog was outside and I had a hard time getting Brutus to go outside, hes a big lug of a dog!

That's what I realized after thinking about it for a while.

It still wasn't something I expected to see on my bill though.

Makes sense, for the electric company to keep track of who has dogs. Our meter is read, from the alley with some kind of electronic device. My dogs go ballistic, when ANYONE is in the alley. We have a six-foot fence, though.
