This isn't a problem, I was just wondering how many other people had cats that do this...

Dax always shakes her head violently when she takes her first bite or two of food - it's like she can't help the urge to "break the neck" of her prey. It's pretty funny to watch - when she eats food, the first bits go flying everywhere. Again, it's not a problem, I have her eat on a plastic mat and it only takes a moment to clean up.

Anyone else have a kitty that tries to kill the food first?

I can't believe more cats don't do it??? It seems like a pretty natural thing to do - although it's a bit funny watching her trying to *kill* the very dead food I put into her bowls!

I know!
I always look at her and say "get em Dax! break those kibble necks!"

That is so hilarious what Dax does! Unfortunately our cats don't so that. I wish one of them did now! LOL.

It's so funny, bc Milo was doing this yesterday and I remembered this thread was here, lol.
He kept running up to his bowl and flinging a piece of food out and then chasing it, catching it, and then eating it. He's sooo kooky.

He's not kooky - he's a hunter!!

One time I dangled a piece of ham in front of my parents cat - he leaped at my hand and got his claw right under my fingernail! It really hurt, I was screaming, the cat was gulping the ham while he still had one paw embedded in my skin - my mother said it was one of the funniest things she had ever seen!

Ollie doesnt kill his kibble, but scoops it out of his bowl with his paw before he eats it, haha... he definitely hunts and kills bugs though!! I think crickets are his favorite... I usually dont know he's got one til I see him chomping

Yes Sashka `kills' her chicken necks before she eats them. Doesn't do it with anything else. She growls at them a bit, too. Soooo cute and funny...
