I noticed this morning that one of my babies (Napoleon) has a leaky eye...otherwise, he seems fine -- my initial reaction was that he may have a URI but there is virtually no sneezing or wheezing. Thoughts? Thanks!

My first thought...what kind of fluid is it? Is his eye red? I'm not sure about the problems a cat can have with their eyes, persay, but I would suggest writing down exactly what's going on, and call the vet.

Maherwoman...it almost looks like he's crying! But only sometimes...not all the time. But I have been keeping an eye out on him to see if it gets worse. Thanks though!

My only thought in return is to either call the vet or take him in. He might have an eye infection of some sort. Never know...

Hope he gets better!!

If the discharge is clear - could be an allergy as well. As long as the color of the discharge dosen't change and he is acting normal don't think there is a need to take him in. Just keep a close eye out in case something changes!

Clinton has an unrelated check-up tomorrow, but this past week he has also had "weepy" eyes. I'm not sure if it's tears or a bit of an infection/allergy myself and while our kitties highly likely have different afflictions, I'd be glad to let you know what my vet says tomorrow.

Good luck with Napoleon!

He may have just got something in his eye or have a little allergy. I wouldn't take him into the vet just yet but keep watch to see if his discharge becomes more regular or starts to look a bit cloudy or infected. If so then I would take him in. It might pay to make a call to your vet just to see what they think, though

I second that. It may very well just be allergies, mine have been going beserk lately. Or he couldve just gotten a "fuzzy" stuck in his eye. Keep an eye on it for a few days and if it gets worse or doesn't get better, then go to the vet. You could call, but chances are theyre just going to say to bring him in, so you might just want to wait it out over the weekend and re-assess on Monday morning.

Sundance has had on and off since I got him one eye that wells up (like us just before we cry) I took him to the vet who gave me an eye ointment to try for 10 days and it didn't help. Vet then said possibly an allergy. This happens in one eye only, maybe 3 to 4 times a week. I read about L Lysine and have given 500mg once a day in his food for about 6 days now and I have not noticed the eye welling up since. Does this mean it is feline herpes? Are my other two at risk? I have not noticed anything in them. How is this diagnosed? After 3 trips to the vet in the last month because of an abcess I dread having to take him in again as he gets very stressed from the ride & the visit. Is this something I should take him in for? What are your opinions please.
