in my neighborhood, there is a black kitty (maybe like 3 or 4 not too sure though) he/she is so cute and his leg looks like it broke a while ago but since he doesn't have anyone, it must have healed broken.
so now when he walks he limps and you can tell he feels very vulnerable. so a while back, when i would see him all the time, i'd feed him/her any chance i get. my goal was to get bootsy (we already named him/her) to come all the time so he doesn't starve, and now he does!
To get to the point, i really would like to take him in and bring him to the vet to get a check up but i can't get anywhere near him. he has started to trust me more but he still wont come too close. anyone have suggestions? i have also noticed the there is a lot of goopy stuff under his left eye and im afraid its an infection or something. i have tow cats so i wouldnt want them to come into contact. please help if anyone can! i really want to save this kitty especially because winter is coming. any help is much appreciated thanks!

Can you find or borrow a humane trap from a local shelter or organisation? It may take a while to get him into it but it seems to me the only way. He obviously must see a vet and if you can't pick him up you need a trap. Thank you for caring.

thank you so much for the help! i really appreciate it. im not sure what TNR stands for but i found a group close to my town. i will find out where my humane society is and call them.
in the meantime what can i do to comfort the cat? i was thinking of putting a little kitty house by my door behind the bush he likes to go behind so he could feel a little secure. i keep food out there during the night fo him/her.
and other suggestions would be great! i really want to help this kitty!
thanks again!

The little kitty house sounds like a great idea! You are to be commended for taking the time to help Bootsy!
Oh, and TNR stands for Trap/Neuter/Release. There are lots of TNR experts on here who can help you with that project--but I'm not one of em, unfortunately!
But, I can say BRAVO and BLESS YOU for helping little Bootsy. The world needs more people like you!

thanks very much!

another problem i have encountered is that if i were to get this humane trap, im not sure what i can do since the kitty only comes around at night and these places aren't open at night. i wouldn't want to leave him/her in a trap all night. i called the SPCA but i didn't get an answer so i will try again later.

ill leave a kitty house outside and ill keep you updated on whats going on.
thanks for the help everyone!

Actually, if you have a garage or a room you can place the trap in, he should be ok overnight in the trap. Many people who work with feral cats do trap towards the evening and take them in to be looked at the next day.

good idea! i don't have a garage or a room that the cat could stay in but how about a bathroom? also, do you think it would be ok for me to go into the room? or do you think that would be bad since he's extremely frightened and also because he could have diseases?

i just found out that my mothers boyfriend will build a cathouse in the backyard so the kitty can come and go as he pleases! so hopefully this will all work out well!
i really appreciate everyones help! thanks a bunch!

You can place the cat (in the trap) in your bathroom...I would not let him out of the cage until he has been seen by a vet, because it may be difficult to retrap him.

ok sorry for not updating, but i have been working hard to help this cat. i am in the process of building a shelter in my yard and its almost done! i will make plans to take him to a great vet and now i need to start feeding him in my backyard but he wont follow the food! i put it out in the front at about 8:30 and he did see it then i started walking low towards the back and he did follow me but then he wouldnt go any further. so i kept it in my backyard with the gate open until 12. i finally gave up and brought the food back to the front ( i couldnt help knowing he was hungry) and of course he shows p and is eating it now. what can i do to get him to the back??
thanks !!!

There's no place like home
If you have been placing food bowls outside for him in the front, move the food bowl a couple of feet towards the back where the shelter is each day. It will take time, but he will come on his schedule. A cat likes routine and sometimes changes need to be made slowly.
