I'm feeding Odin, the 3 month old kitten, Nutro kitten food in the pouch along with kitten dry. Neither will touch canned. Pansy, the 5 year old, has been eating the kitten food consistently. I've tried feeding them separately, doesn't work. Odin ends up eating the weight management dry and that's unacceptable. So they're both eating kitten food right now.

My question, is that I've noticed the kitten's stool is pretty soft, but now Pansy's seem to have gotten softer as well. Is this a result of the change in food to kitten? Could the kitten food be detremental to Pansy in some way? Or is it just that kitten food tends to cause soft stools?

Both are eating well, Odin is growing like a weed, there are no other signs of illness.
Also wanted to ask, if the kitten food is the reason for the soft stool, at what age should a kitten come off kitten specific food and graduate to adult food?

Thanks guys. You rock.

Hmmm.....when I fostered kittens..they did have loose stool...but given the fact that both your kitten and your cat have loose stool now, perhaps a quick trip to the vet would be in order just to ensure they are both healthy. Sometimes loose stool is caused by food...but sometimes it is a sign that something else needs to be addressed. Your vet could also provide you with food recommendations if you need to switch brands. I know that my girl has a very sensitive stomache so she can only be on a particuliar brand of cat food. Kittens really should not be switched to "cat" food until they are 1 year of age. They need all the extra protein while they are growing.

Pansy's stool is still solid, just softer than it was before the food change.
and now i'm concerned with liver issues, from the very little i've read there's a concern for Pansy's health in eating kitten food.

they were both at the vet not a week ago, all clear.
