Hi. I have a kitty that comes around my house every so often. I hadn't see her for awhile and the next time I saw her she had a bit of weight around her belly. She's a really little kitty and I figured she was pregnant. The thing is, I'm not exactly sure if she has a home. I think she's my next door neighbor's cat as he asked my dad if he had seen the cat around lately. He is almost totally blind so I'm not exactly sure how good of care that she gets. I don't know what to do for her to ensure that her babies are delivered safely. I don't want to take his cat away but what do I do for the sake of momma and babies? Thanks!

That is a tough one.....however, if it were me I would take the cat to the vet to verify that she is indeed pregnant. If she isn't....I would have her spayed as there is no reason for her to be outdoors and continue to be subjected to the possibility of becoming pregnant. If she is....I would take her in (again, it is critical that she be seen by a vet first so you can make sure she is healthy) and set her up in a room with a birthing box where she can have her kittens...more information on how to make her comfortable can be found here:

I would also keep her indoors only until she has had her kittens and weaned them...then I would have her spayed. There is no reason for her to have to be intact and perhaps this man has no ability to pay for her spay.

I'm pretty positive that she is pregnant. The problem is, I know my parent's aren't going to allow me to bring this cat inside our house. I do plan on getting her spayed after she has the babies. I just don't know what to do with her. Maybe I can go talk to him about it.

Your neighbour may not know she is pregnant if he is blind. I would go and talk to him tactfully, ask if she is his and whether there is anything you can do to help. he may not be able to provide any safe places for her to give birth either. Then talk to your Dad calmly and come to an arrangement that will benefit the cat and her kittens when they are born, including getting her spayed as soon as possible.

Hi Jenny. My neighbor knows that she is pregnant. He mentioned something about it when he was talking to my dad. He has a garage where he does a lot of computer work in. I was thinking maybe of putting something out there, but I'm not sure if it will be warm enough for the kitties. I do think she needs to be spayed and I might go ahead and pay to get that done. Thanks.

I think that is very generous of you. Is the garage closed so she won't be outdoors anymore?? It would be ideal for her to be someplace indoors only so she doesn't have the chance to give birth outdoors. Plus, with access outdoors, she could go back into heat and become pregnant again...so it would be ideal for her to remain indoors only until she is spayed.
