I went on the patch and quit smoking for good almost a year ago. Actually it will be exactly one year on Oct 4th. You have to be really ready to guit, and it takes a lot of will power, but it's worth it in the end, and you'll start feeling better really fast. I think it's a good idea for you to discuss quitting with your doctor especially since you're on other meds.

Thank you all!!! I did order the book and I talked to my doctor. I am going to try the gum as soon as I have the money for it... Hopefully this weekend!

Talk to your doctor. Good luck!
I am going trough the same thing, trying to quit, and so far it's not going too good. I don't smoke in the house, or the car , only outside, I am the weirdo you see outside in the cold smoking away...I had enough of it.
Maybe I will quit with you!!!
then I don't have to do it alone.

Good luck again. You can do it !

Good luck!
I had a thread about this several weeks ago, & someone told me the gum doesn't work..I've thought about getting the gum to at least help me cut down, but am worried about what it will do to my teeth.(they are sooo sensitive, I don't want to make it worse!) I did quit for awhile with the patch, but it was boredom that started me back up again. And don't wear the patch to bed, you may have the most horrible dreams.
Mike(my fiancee) & I talked yesterday about quitting this coming Monday. There is NO WAY I could go cold turkey, I would be a monster.
My main worry is to keep occupied. Constantly.

You have to really want to quit in order to be able to do it. The first time I quit, I did it because I knew it was the right thing to do, but I really didn't want to quit. So I started back after a while and smoked more than ever. The second time I quit I asked the Lord to help me do it. He did and I quit. That was in 1978 and I was smoking between two and three pks. of Salem 100's a day. Believe me, I have never been sorry.
I hope you can do it. I will be thinking of you.

I want to quit too!!!

I've been smoking for 15 years and it's time. The great American smokeout is Nov 17, 2005 but I don't want to wait that long. Anybody want to start our own quit day?! We'll need everyone's help at TCS. It always helps to quit with friends...so I hear anyway. I quit before using Zyban. It did work...I just didn't have the willpower to not pick it up again.

I want to quit, too. Because to smoke is so senseless. If you take a look in the mirror when you are smoking, it looks so stupid (I think, when I take a look).

Commit yourself to running every day. Once you quit and realize how much better you can breathe when you're running, it is a HUGE eye opener. You will not believe the difference in lung capacity. Get yourself hooked on working out. that's what I did and I haven't smoked in years

Ha, don't ask me cause I'll keep putting it off until November!
j/k

With both Zyban and the patch, they suggest the step-down method...meaning you smoking less and less cigarettes a day. I guess we all just need to pick a date together. And then stop either cold turkey or by using the step-down method (or any other method you choose.)

I read in a magazine a couple days ago that the average person tries to quit 6 times before they are successful.

Aricular therapy is where they use a laser (totally painless) and hit certain pressure points in your ear. It helps diminish the withdrawal symptoms you would normally get when you quit any other way. It was wonderful. I never got the headaches, I was never antsy or anxious. I didn't even have an increase in appetite. I didn't want a smoke after I had it done, it was great.
