Me and my sister live together. I have a cat, she has a dog. Her dog constantly wants to eat cat poo out of the litter box, as well as eat cat litter in general. I use sweat scoop, which I hope doesn't hurt her if she does eat it, but I don't want her eating litter anyway. The litter box is a covered one, and we have tried placing it with the entrance toward the wall so only the cat could get in. Well, the dog will move it enough so she can get it, then have lunch. The litter box is in here by the computer and printer. She is deathly afraid of the printer for some reason. When she starts to get in the litter box, I've tried printing something, the idea being to scare her and not let her see me causing it. She has not made any connection between the litter box and the scary printer. Anyone else faced this and what did you do? Thanks for any help.

Do you have a room where you can place the litter box then use a baby gate so kitty can get in but puppers can't?

My friend has a red bone hound that loves to eat kitty droppings fresh from the box...what she ended up doing was placing the kitty box in a room with a closed door and then installed a kitty door...too small for the dog to get through? might work?

What kind of dog is she? What we've done (I have a Pekingese, small dog, not a jumper) is keep the litter boxes in the Master bedroom bath, and during the day there's a short barrier (I made it from a piece of shelving, so it's no more than 12" high) across the door. High enough to keep her out during the day, and easily stepped over for both us and the cats. At night Kellie is leashed to the dresser to keep her from having a er, midnight snack
.

Another option is a baby gate as the cats can (usually) jump it, but it's tall enough to keep most dogs out.

I thought that there was something that could be added to the cat's diet to make the poop less tasty???

We are renting this place, so I don't think we can do the kitty door. I guess I gate is possible though. I might have to look into that.

The dog is a Cocker Spaniel. She doesn't jump very well. Struggles to jump up to couch level. The cat is a jumper. He can jump from the floor to the top of the entertainment center, which is about five feet tall. I guess we will just have to block her out of the room.

We saw something like that at Petsmart, but it looked like it was to discourage cats from eating their own, and then we weren't sure if it was safe for dogs. If I can find it online, I'll email or call the company to find out. Thanks for reminding me about it.

Let me update this.. I just called Petsmart. The stuff is to feed to dogs to get them to stop eating their own and we didn't think it was a good idea to feed it to a cat. Anyway, just clarifying it.

I had to use the baby gate to keep Brynna out of the litter box, even with a cover. She was just grossing us out!
