I was wondering if cat pee smells. I work during daytime and when I went to bed yesterday I picked up a book from my nighttable and there was a small clear unsmelly puddle on it. It looked more like plain water.
Did the cat pee on the book???
I don't have any clue from where water should have come...

The only time cat pee doesn't smell as strong as you'd expect is when it is extremely dilute, as with a senior catizen in kidney failure, and even then, there is some smell.

Sounds like kitty threw up some saliva.

It could have been that the kitty threw up some water. Cat pee really stinks..you'd know the smell if you smelt it.

A healthy cat's urine has a strong, unique odor. It enables a cat to mark territory.

Kitten pee might be less intense, but it still smells, and yes, I have seen my guys throw up saliva and clear watery liquid.

Well, that is kind of ironic!

But even the smallest amout of pee REALLY smells. And, to quote one of my cat books, who put it so daintly, "a cat goes into reverse quite easily." (i.e. throws up!)

In my experience the smell seems to be worse with male cats - maybe thats just because they like to spread it around... however no cat urine smells good - look at the rest of the animal kingdom - it seems like the cuter the animal gets, the worse its feces and urine will smell.

especially an intact tom! but in my experience, kitten (really small, like under 4 months) pee is not nearly as bad as after they're mature... cats in heat & intact toms have the worst smells... i start noticing kitten pee after about 6 months of age. my sense of smell is not the best, tho! (& that's not always a bed thing!)

honestly if I had a choice...I'd choose a clear upchuk over partially digested food/hairball...or pee

I cleaned up a hairball the other week - you definately want the clear nonsmelly stuff! Maybe your kitty was expressing his opinion of the kitten book!
